SOL's Global Challenge 2012-2013 - PPRuNe Flotilla
Several moons ago (in 2008) a plucky band of PPRuNers ventured forth onto the virtual briney in their trusty ocean-going yachts in a virtual version of the Volvo Ocean Race.
At the end of that race, on a point-and-click sailing game website, we were recommended by a Swedish prooner to visit Sailonline.org - Online Sailing, a free-to-play virtual sail-racing navigation simulator, and some of us haven't looked back, and have participated in a a couple of oceans races as a PPRuNe Flotilla (SOL boatnames are prefixed with PRU_).
SO ... the time has come for a 4-leg 2012-2013 circumnavigation on SOL. In Open 60s we shall set forth on Saturday, November 10 @1200utc.
I think it would be simply splendid to have a PPRuNe Flotilla again. I will be away for the start of Leg 2 but... I am sure we can muddle through :-)
Anyone else in? If so, please post your PPRuNe handle and your SOL boat name and I will effect a change so that we all have the prefix "PRU_" for the four legs of the race!!
Fox3WMB - reply to PM sent. As for the change to prefix PRU_ that is something I will do for everyone at one time (probably on Friday afternoon).

For those whe haven't sailed on SOL for a while, the Beta version is recommended. But for the sudden and sad death of SOL's main client developer earlier this year, the Beta would be "current". Unfortunately it remains an option that has to be chosen from the Race Description panel for each race on the RH side of SOL's Homepage. So, just click on the Beta link to gain the best functionality.
There is a Manual accompanying the Beta and I deffo commend it to y'all who don't regularly race on SOL:
Bushfiva - what flag would you like? Did you end up with Afghanistan? That is a default flag and if you are speedy in registering, as I was in 2008, you end up with Afghanistan! My first email to SOL was to ask to be changed to the British flag hehehe
However, I am now a volunteer SOL Admin and the Races Organiser/setter-upper so I can amend your flag for you

Bushfiva - I've checked the SOL database and your User Country is Japan so... if you have just registered in a race, it can take several minutes for the Cloud server to populate your data through the system but you should then have the correct flag assigned.
beaufort1 - t'was Aaron that set up your Guernsey flag but hopefully Markku knows how to do it. I will ask him. In the meantime, is this the flag in question?
Bushfiva - what country is that please? SOL only displays national flags. Alderney is not part of the UK and has its own national identity, that is why beaufort "may" get his flag changed.
