So, we are all past the Ends of the Earth (Cap Finisterre).

I see Mike Golding's blog in the real race is musing on "When to turn West?"

ChkSix has gone early, Beaufort and VikingAhoy now also. What about the rest of us? Madeira?

Night crew made a pig's ear of the last bits of the Great Lakes.

A question. Passing a marker (Outer Island Light. Pass NW) is the direction of travel important? I sneaked up on it from behind, due to having overshot and have now passed it twice but not showing as passed.
Edited to add

Passed it twice but Distance to go is still increasing.

You'll have to unwind and pass it on your port side. If it's any consolation you are allowed to cross the finish line in any direction.

Reread 4.2, Beaufort, so I didn't do it correctly. seems obvious now. Never mind, boat's aground, crew's in the bar.

At least we can't run into trawlers when virtual sailing....

Hm, decisions decisions. Do I head West and eventually pick up stronger winds or do I keep in close to the coast and sail a shorter course.

You should drop anchor while you think about it carefully.

I've decided to go the short way, although the winds don't look too good. I decided that if I went West i would be playing catch up and that has never worked so to the East of the Canaries for me (at the moment).
The real fleet all seem to be following Beaufort !

As I am about to head out on vacation until mid-December I thought I should post the current rankings for our flotilla. For two reasons - one selfish and one unselfish. The unselfish is because we've been sailing a few days so its good to see where we are, the selfish is because I am probably as high up the ranking as I will ever be!!!

Have a good holiday Brockie, well I bit the bullet and headed West. On the face of it it looks like I've made the right decision, (must be a first) and avoided the light and variable winds closer in to shore.

Think you'll end up better than me in all this light wind, and a drop of wine in Funchal too.

Ooh, I've made up a bit of ground overnight but I would have preferred to be slightly West I think.

Plummeted from my rightful place at the head of the PRU flotilla to somewhere near the tail end thanks to my unerring ability to, well, do it wrong. Reduced to farting prodigiously to make progress.

I roll the weather forecast 4 days ahead to decide my routing. It does not seem reliable beyond this.

Off out for a funeral shortly, be a while before I'm back at the helm so I've made THE DECISION and it'll run.
I wonder how much further back I'll go ?

Our RC has beached on the island of Las Palmas. Hope she can check in and save the "boat".
