For those too lazy to click the links, Mitt Romney (Republican candidate for the upcoming USA presidential elections) just wondered/complained that you can't open the windows on a plane so in case of cabin smoke you can not get oxygen from outside...
Meh, I'm no american so I won't be able to vote but I sure do have an opinion ...
Someone who was at the event reported that the aside was made with an obviously sardonic/ironic tone. Given that irony is an extinct species in the USA, it's no surprise that his statement was taken at face value.
(And you have NO IDEA just how much it irks me to give Romney the benefit of the doubt...)
CORRECTION: I've seen the clip. He wasn't joking. I can take it all back. Bloody hell.....
Telegraph article Oh dear oh dear oh dear...I don't know which aspect of this is more lamentable:
1. Romney has inadvertently painted a searing indictment of science education in the USA. 2. He may soon be (but hopefully not) in a position of authority over thousands of US military aircraft with...non-opening windows. 3. Many honest and decent republicans will looking at each other and saying "is this the BEST we could come up with to challenge Obama?!"
Location: Why oh why would I wanna be anywhere else?

It's a dark, dark day when a politician can't make a joke without it being misinterpreted and lambasted in the press and self-righteous ppruners feel that they have to be the first to start off a thread poking a big stick in their direction.
