I was at a "save the airport" event and concert at Tempelhof and although the mayor made every effort to make it seem like it was closing for the benefit of the neighbourhood, none of the "neighbours" were fooled. The man is a fool, the process of a local politician closing national infrastructure and getting away with it (like that criminal Mayor Daley and Meigs Field in Chicago) boggles the mind. That national authorities permit this behaviour that forever removes a facility long after the flash-in-pan of a mayor is a scandal. Then there are the national authorities in Norway who closed Fornebu, opened the new airport in the foggiest place they could find, with no viable alternate. I guess they win the scandel award in gold.
