Truly awe inspiring.

One of the most fantastic pictures of our planet I've ever seen . . . to quote my D-I-L when she nodded towards this entry.

That would be the elaborate PhotoShop Earth/Space image by Israel Galindo - Baptist Theologian, artist, and hack artist? (his self description).

1. If this was a true, untouched image - would it not be copyright of NASA? If it is a NASA pic, the reproduction of the image without approval by NASA, or reference to NASA owning the copyright, is a major copyright infringement.

2. The colours of the distant galaxy are not the true colours that our eyes, or a camera lens picks up, from this position above Earth.
The colours of the distant galaxies in space photos are often retouched by NASA, to try give a more accurate idea of what we would see, if we were in deep space, viewing the particular distant galaxy.

3. The galaxy shot on the Facebook image, is similar to the NASA image of the Barred Spiral Galaxy NGC 1672, taken by the Hubble telescope, in deep space.
This photo of NGC 1672 has been retouched by NASA, to try and replicate what our eyes would actually see from the Hubble position.

It doesn't stop it being a nice picture though.

What I want to know, is how exactly do I copy it and make it the wallpaper on my laptop.

Cheers.

ssb - get the pic direct here:

Screensaver settings used to be right click lower left of screen, but this may vary with windows version. Android is long touch on screen, then wallpaper.

Of all the space images I've seen in recent years, this following composite shot has to be one of the most stunning, to me. To actually see such a clear shot of the Martian surface is awe-inspiring, IMO.
