How do you steal 3.4 million litres of maple syrup?

It's mind boggling isn't it? Apparently CAD 30 million worth of maple syrup was stolen from a storage facility in Quebec.

What does one do with it?
How does one dispose of such a quantity?

(Psst ... anyone want some cheap maple syrup .........?)

I read about that a few weeks ago, sounds like an inside job.

I suspect it is on its way to a bottling plant somewhere "Eastern".

Without looking up the s.g. of maple syrup that's close to 3,500 tonnes around 100 tanker-loads. Lot of transport needed.

Given the stocktaking inadequacies,I wonder if they can be absolutely certain that the syrup was even delivered in the first place ? Obviously the paperwork says it was

WHY on Earth would anyone want to steal that amount of that horrible stuff?
Have they found a way to convert it in to petrol?

Maple Syrup, the original nectar of the Gods! Nothing finer for Sunday pancakes! I am curious how they shipped all that without attracting attention.

It's either an insurance scam or an attempt to create a perceived shortage and inflate the price.

I think the latter as no insurance would pay out without investigating and any investigation would very quickly reveal that it never happened.

It does, Tony. We make our own, and very fine it is too 10 trees produced 25 pints of the yummy stuff this spring. Looks like rain water initially, after 10 hours of boiling, syrup.

And it doesn't cost us $12 a pint

Mid way through the boiling, mix some of the partially boiled liquid in a mug with some rum for a very delicious warming adult beverage

The RCMP have issued a statement :

"The RCMP were looking for a group of thieves with a sweet tooth. The search parameters have now changed and we are looking for a group of toothless thieves on the run. If anyone has information about the whereabouts of these people we suggest that you encourage them to turn themselves inside out, before they come to a sticky end."
