So, what would it take to turn you into Rambo?
Just seen a suggestion that Stansted might be being eyed up again. Mmmm . . . really tedious for those that have been all through this before.
I recall seeing a archetypal British gentleman on television talking about his home being destroyed to make way for more Stansted. I recall seeing an idyllic backdrop to the interview; a perfect little village, with a perfect little church. Just the place I would love to live and be buried in.
I remember getting hot under the collar about the 'promises' the government made when Stansted was first being considered. Meaningless. Totally and utterly worthless. I also recall thinking that if anyone were to approach my home with a bulldozer, because it was in the public interest - read commercial gain - then I would put everything I had into stopping it, or them, or whatever.
What would it take to make the average PpruNer lay down his bible and pick up the sward?
11fan I wouldn't get to caught up in it...if Obama wins... when the senate and house elections come around I'll vote conservative...If Romney wins I'll vote liberal---as Conan O'Brian used to say "keep cool my babies"...
I have never understood why Heathrow is constantly being expanded, or considered for expansion, given that with the prevailing winds, the approach is over a major conurbation. Surely somewhere to the east is more sensible??
Sorry, I used "sensible" when discussing government policy. I'll get my coat...
The Democrats have proposed Nationalizing Pensions, IRA's, 401(k)'s and turning them into something like Social Security. If they get serious and actually try to do that....That folks will get me to killing some people!
You can't fight City Hall. I understand what drove the Old Guy to it, but you'd have to kill the lot of them.
I am just completing my house out here in Canada - self-build (self-design too), no building inspections or 'style' controls whatsoever. Guess what? The houses people build look nice. There's the odd run down mobile home, but it's no worse than the also occasional abandoned gas station, or farmhouses that haven't been lived in for 30 years. Very few of the locals have 'trade' qualifications, but they generally do at least as good a job as the UK 'qualified' types.
Don't go crazy - find a part of the World where you can do what you want.
p.s. Fireworks are banned here, but nobody pays the slightest attention to that one. My neighbour had a great show yesterday!

Give it another twenty years and it will be beyond even their control, our green spaces and parks will be covered in corrugated iron and cardboard shanty towns like any other third world tip. Sure as eggs is eggs that is.

There, there, no rush really. The squadrillions of Fokker uppers need to pace themselves, like near everybody else. Tis harder than one might think to keep making things worse and worse and worse without any break or respite.
Political people have even more difficulty than ordinary rotters, pimps, thugs and churls in keeping up the pace of worsification, partly because their lot tend to not have very accurate short-term memory (really a must for a politico, that is) and no long-term recall at all. Only goes as far as the last fund-raiser or swag-bag, convenient memory does. Tends to make cohesive plans for coherent despoilment of the neighborhood, etc., a seriously iffy thing. Must do it piecewise for any chance of finishing.
So that's a thought or twei to warm yer cockles and toast yer blains. Sure enuf it's all gone ta hell, but maybe at a walking pace, an'likely all yer friends'll be there, grumblin along like usual, cheer'in the day.
