I haven't seen any news about US intervention in this matter between UK and Ecuador.

From my perspective, exiling this weasel, who has has his 15 minutes of fame, to Ecuador, is a just solution for everyone. May he live long and prosper under his Quito blanket.

FFS! Are our diplomats idiots? You can't go about threatening to storm embassies.

What they should do is the Pausanias strategy.

( for those who don't know their Spartan history General Pausanias was a traitor due to be arrested. He fled to a temple and said " this is holy ground you can't touch me here..." So the Spartans bricked up the doors and left him to it.)

Nope, you are just having trouble remembering which of the three threads you posted it in!

What has it come to when popinjays like this man speak as First Secretary?

He still sounds like this...

Hague sounds pretty clear to me. Can't get too worked up about a minor diplomatic discussion with Ecuador.
Only been there once and the captain wouldn't permit us to go ashore in Guayaquil because the locals were shooting each other - again.

This pretty much sums it up!

Julian Assange asylum row puts UK in catch-22 situation | Media | guardian.co.uk

I am sure that some old diplomatic hands are watching this with some concern. Britain has a lot to lose in South America in the medium term if diplomacy fails in this case. Given some of the people at the tiller here these days though I guess anything is possible!

When the sound of the South American pipes was fresh and occasional there was some appeal, but a group of musicians based themselves in Newcastle and every darned time I went there they were polluting the atmosphere with the sound, which, as with any static street music soon gets to be tedious.

The novelty wore off and it became annoying noise rather than entertainment.

Hague is a very clever and smarmy bastard. He 'won't allow Assange safe passage'. I suspect he will be allowed to slip out in disguise and then 'an investigation'w will be called for and some high ranking police officer will have to fall on his sword.

It's obviously political. Sweden could easily offer an assurance that they will not allow his extradition to the USA but they haven't. And that's what it's all about, the USA wants to get this guy. His real crime: actually performing journalism. The sexual crime allegations are just a ruse (whether true or not).

Meanwhile, Bradley Manning, the soldier who leaked the info has been in custody without trial for 800+ days.

It does make me wonder why the US military takes so long
to get things moving in some of these high profile cases.

Couldn't they at least charge him with something that is easy to convict
and then move onto the bigger stuff later ?

800+ days? Don't sweat it. He's got a lot more coming to him.

By the way, get a clue, Sweden doesn't have him and the US doesn't care.

The veracity of this comment is clear to all those who would see Re-entry!

Veracity?

Am I not seeing something?

Sweden has nothing to do with it as Assange is in the Ecuador embassy in the UK. Neither does the US

Any superpower? There's only one superpower, fellah, and we are questioned all the time, and God doesn't forbid it.
