RN motto?

Help! Can someone confirm the definitive RN motto?

Si vis pacem, pare bellum - is this correct?

Many thanks.

This is just by memory, of course, but what I remember is an option between:

(a) "You're on duty twenty-four hours per day"; and

(b) "If you can't take a joke, you shouldn't have joined".

Both equally true, really.

My grandfather told me that if you missed a shave, it meant a beard.

about the video - do they actually signal something or is it just flag-waving?

Permission to grow a beard? Yes, you had to submit a standard request form through your divisional officer.

Motto's - Only two I ever knew were;

"That's life in a blue suit"

and my personal favourite.. Issued at full volume when a decision was questioned.

"This is the Navy son, not a fcuking democracy"

Traditional Naval bollockings were known to incorporate the afore mentioned, the scale of the bollocking being graded by the number of locking clips on a door on a Naval vessel;

2 Clips - Minimum secured position, a short brief bollocking from which a swift escape may be effected without significant loss of dignity / self respect.

8 Clip Bollocking (Condition Yankee) - A proper hair dryer from which escape is not possible, when properly delivered the recipient usually resembles a frightened child at a Guns N Roses concert.
