Time to ban knives

Chinese teen kills eight in knife attack

Link

Quote:
A teenager has been arrested after killing eight people and wounding five others in a knife attack in northeast China, state media reported Thursday.

The 17-year-old, which was identified only by his surname Li, barged into the home of his girlfriend armed with a knife following an argument and killed two relatives of the girl, the Legal Daily said.

As he left his girlfriend's home in Liaoning province's Xinbin county, he stabbed six more people to death and wounded five, it said.

He was arrested at the scene of the attack, late on Wednesday night, and was taken into custody, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

No other details were immediately available. Calls made to local authorities and police in Xinbin county went unanswered.
Violent crime has been on the rise in China in recent decades as the nation's economy has boomed and the gap between rich and poor has expanded at an alarming rate.

Experts say the increase in assaults shows that China is paying the price for focusing on more than 30 years of economic growth while ignoring problems linked to rapid social change.
Studies have described a rise in the prevalence of mental disorders in China, some of them linked to stress as the pace of life becomes faster and socialist support systems wither.
However, authorities stress that murder, which carries the death penalty, remains far less common than in most Western countries.

Hmmmm....

Quote:
However in China, gun crime is rare, as private citizens are forbidden from owning and selling guns.

No matter what you do humans will find ways to kill humans... Clearly, controlling the weapons is not the answer.

Bet this doesn't cause the outpouring of 'moral outrage' on here that a few people being shot in the USA does.

Obsidian. Well-crafted obsidian blades have a cutting edge many times sharper than high-quality steel surgical scalpels

Obsidian - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Of course, they will try to ban that as well before long!
Guns/Knife's/Cars/Aeroplanes/big sticks don't kill people. PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE. So not much anyone can do about that.

We were looking yesterday in the window of a shop in Castelló d'Empurias which sells not only knives but swords - scimitars, samuri, medieval European etc. - many of which are carried at the Festival de Trobadors each September (and in every other town which has medieval festiovals). Whilst there is an occasional stabbing in Barcelona, despite there being so little restriction in selling sharp weapons here the amount of use of them in crime is very rare.

So as with guns, it's not the weapon, it's the user.

of course not. the USA (once) a free country with freedom of speech allows critisism right or wrong and that allows those with a personal agenda to have a platform, of course china is a different case so the huggy fluffs will rail at the US over it's gun laws while ignoring the hard facts of reality.

but for China, no huggy fluff rallying cry ,as oft quoted by Helen Lovejoy..
Quote:
Helen Lovejoy (née Schwartzbaum) is Reverend Timothy Lovejoy's judgmental and gossipy wife and the mother of Jessica Lovejoy.

Her moral convictions explains her famous catchphrase, delivered in times of civic crisis (moral or otherwise): "Will someone please think of the children?".

Yeh right - the economy has been booming so I'll kill a couple of rellies of my
GF and while I'm at it knock off six strangers and injure another five for good
measure.

But who is gonna pay for the bullet? Old ma Li or the GF? Under Chinese law
someone's fam has to cough up the cost of the round. I'll bet an even ¥1,000
on it being the GF.

I used to sell bayonets in my militaria shop. I had to be careful to instruct any buyer not to unwrap the bayonet until they got it home, as owning a bayonet was not an offence, whereas carrying it openly in the street most certainly was. What was daft was that right next to my shop was a household store where you could buy cooking knives of a similar length to my bayonets, and which were equally capable of inflicting a fatal wound. It used to strike me that anyone intent on stabbing somebody would hardly draw attention to themself by buying a bayonet whereas they could pick up a long knife next door without attracting attention to themselves.

Of course it won't, same as there wasn't the same "moral outrage" when Breivik went off. In other words, if it don't happen in the USofA then there is no "moral" issue of the same magnitude.

Except most of the "moral outrage" on this forum comes from those OUTSIDE the USofA, meaning that their "platform", their "agenda", has sod all to do with what has actually happened and is only an excuse to have a pop at the USofA.

I now wait on a certain group of people to tell us what "extra controls" should be put in place to prevent this happening again, which movie or video game influenced the killer, and how "nobody needs knives, ban them"..........

As they are in most places, Per, but buying them isn't...........

So how will a ban on having a knife with you when in public prevent stabbings, as seen in the UK, any more than the laws in Colorado "prevented" Holmes from doing what he did or "Li" in the latest one from China?

I'm all for allowing only one shot guns

gives us more of a chance after the first bang

How about allowing only breakaway knives where the blade stays in the first victim?
