Bought a new rifle today

Just because I could.

I felt like I needed a .22 Marlin 16 shot semi to round out my home arsenal previously consisting only of a Kimber .45 semi, and a Remington 570 tactical 12 gage 5 round shotgun.

I've got about 1,000 rounds total in the fortress.

I think I'm covered. Any suggestions?

A 40mm Bofors added to the collection should just about cover all eventualities.

I admit I do live in proximity to one of the most violent cities in the world, Detroit.

While my suburban community has one of the lowest crime rates in the country, which I attribute to the fact that we are among the most heavily armed communities in the country, I would like to know where I should go for safety, all things considered. I am mobile, coming up on retirement, and open to living anywhere in the world.

Where would you suggest, all factors considered. And can I have a shotgun when I get there?

I presume you started the thread in order to refresh the argument for/against firearms.
I'm not going to involve myself in that, but I do find it sad that in approaching retirement your first priority is the ability to defend yourself with a gun, rather than quality of life, healthcare, climate, food, and all the other things that make life worthwhile.

Perhaps with weapons one can assure quality of life, healthcare, climate, food, and all the other things that make life worthwhile.

One can never tell, can one.

You nailed that one, Sally. And after that, you identified all the warm fuzzies I'm seeking.

Where are you, actually. Is it nice? Can you get by with no need to defend yourself? I'm truly interested in such a place if that's what you have.

PM me with details if you wish to keep the secret. I understand.

Lemme settle in for this one. This doesn't bear any of the hallmarks whatsoever of anything that hasn't been done to death on here before. Oh no.

That's a fine machine, M. rigpiggy.

Sprogget,

The issue never ends, so why should the discussion of it end? The pattern is that we talk about it until the mods lock it up due to a transgression on the part of an anti-self defense idealogue.

If you don't want to play the game, why post at all?

I'll look forward to the new argument you promise.

I live on the edge of a large city that has its fair share of violent crime, but I don't feel the need to carry a gun. Judging from the news reports the great majority of victims of weapons are themselves users of weapons. I just live my life and enjoy it.

As predicted this thread is going exactly where you aimed it, so I'll leave it to you and the mods.

Or this. Why don't you just go to a shop and exchange some cash for some sausages. No need for a gun really is there?!

Oh, this is so much fun, really is you know.

And when you are home with your sausages and someone that wants your sausages breaks in with a knife, wants to take your sausage and hurt you, throw some cash that them. See if that works and let me know, if you're still able to do so.

Also, it is not up to you to tell me if I can have a gun or not. In my country is our choice whether we have a gun or not. So there.

Oh, by the way, I personally chose not to own a gun. Used to have to carry one, got tired of it.

And so the tedious cycle of justification & denigration begins.

Presumably this is the point where a Canadian chips in to ask what this 'crime' thing is?

And that a gun or two seems quite sensible when you could bump into bears, wolves, etc...

....although we do not lock our doors because wolves haven't figured out door knobs yet.

Price might improve some when one comes shopping with a gun....

Not suggesting any use of same... of course.

Speak softly and carry a big stick

Another possibility is that the bipolar, underpaid, single mom of 3 behind the counter will promptly lose it.... pulling out her double sawed-off the moment she sees you, thinking to herself... "that SOB with his shiny little cap pistol looks just like my cheating drunken scumbag ex, and they're both gonna pay for it right now... from the waist on down."

Hard to kill most things without some projectile launcher, as I can't run fast enough to stick a spear in it anymore
