However, as to other events on that day ..... I doubt that Bryce has the balls (literally) to do a Kerr. Although that's what is certainly needed at the moment.
It's interesting that Wilkie's statement set the ball rolling publicly. Methinks it's payback to Jooliar for dudding him.
The Pope and Kevin Rudd are on the same stage in front of a huge crowd at the AFL Grand Final. The Pope leaned towards Mr. Rudd and said, "Do you know that with one little movement of my hand I can make every person in this crowd go wild with joy? This joy will not be a momentary display, like those believers in a football match, but go deep into their hearts and they'll forever speak of this day and rejoice!"
Rudd replied, "I seriously doubt that. With one little wave of your hand? Show me".
Awesome picture, RT. Is it yours? If so, do the War Memorial in Canberra have a copy (or the Museum of the NT), because if not I'm sure they'd love one.

Worrals, you forgot the people really running the place - greens, and perhaps independents.
Anyway, on a less serious note, Ask and ye shalt receive. Thanks, Pinky! I broke my own rule and used Slipper, because I figured that no matter how diverse our political views may be on JB, no-one likes Slipper.
No worries, just checking. Btw, I didn't mean to suggest you were old enough to have taken it yourself , thought it might have been taken by a family member.

YOU'VE GOT TO LOVE THIS FARMER'S OUTLOOK ......
While suturing up a cut on the hand of a 75 year old farmer, whose hand had been caught in the gate while working his cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Julia Gillard, and her being our prime minister.
The old farmer said, "Well, ya know, Julia is just a Post Tortoise."
Now not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked,
What's a "Post Tortoise?"
The old farmer said, "When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a Tortoise balanced on top, that's a Post Tortoise."
The old farmer saw the puzzled look on the doctor's face so he continued to explain. "You know she didn't get up there by herself, she doesn't belong up there, she doesn't know what to do while she's up there, she sure as hell isn't goin' anywhere, and you just wonder what kind of dumb bastard put her up there in the first place."

Greens hardly all over Murray-Darling
It appears that the Greens have called for a Senate Inquiry on the Murray-Darling; the problem is, we already have one. Maybe they are not aware of it. The Rural Affairs and Transport Senate Committee already have an ongoing inquiry into the Murray-Darling.
The Greens’ seeming ignorance of the Murray -Darling process is more concerning than perplexing. How can they know what the impact of the plan will be on Deniliquin if they don't even know what is going on in the Senate?
Even though the Greens have been absent from the Murray-Darling Basin hearings so far they are welcome to this committee's hearings which will begin in the next few months.
More ominous than the Greens' belated attention to the process is their desire to question the integrity of the Act against the outcome.
What they are basically saying is that if they don’t like the outcome they will take it to court and have the plan thrown out, which will lead us back to where they want to go which is 7600 gigalitres removed from the basin and destitution for the people who live there.
The Greens don't want a triple bottom line outcome; they want a green, environmental outcome.
The Coalition stands ready to discuss with Mr Burke ways to secure a triple bottom line immune from legal challenge. We will continue to fight for an outcome that secures the economic and social security of the motel owners, mortgage holders, chemist shops and the irrigation industry, which sustains the economic fabric of this vitally important piece of Australia agriculture.
Think Rupert's got a scratch in the record here...didn't Julia have 2 weeks left a year ago (according to the media)? Furthermore, wasn't Peter Costello called a gutless bstard for not taking on Howard?

Kevin Rudd has resigned as foreign minister. Mr Rudd called an extraordinary media conference in Washington DC just after 1am local time (1700 AEDT). Mr Rudd says he'll return to Brisbane on Friday and will make a full statement on his future before parliament resumes on Monday after consulting with family and colleagues.
"While I am sad to leave this office I am sadder still that it has come to this," Mr Rudd said. He said a number of ministers and "faceless men" had publicly attacked his credibility.

The simple truth is that I cannot continue to serve as foreign minister if I don't have Prime Minister Gillard's support

Watching ABC 24. What a clusterfcku! Rudd obviously got wind that Gillard was going to give him the boot when he got back so it appears that he got his retaliation in first. Apparently he did not inform Gillard about his intentions - merely had a letter of resignation dropped into her office as he was appearing in front of the cameras.
Bruce Hawker is obviously Rudd's campaign manager and would seem to indicate that the strategy is the 2 prong ballot.
Just announced that Gillard will announce a ballot.
How on earth did this shower of scheissen ever get trusted with running the country??

Watching TV is amazing. They are all coming out and slagging each other off. Most of the points they are making against each other's side are points that have been discussed ad nauseum on previous Oz politics threads and yet were denied, denied and denied by the true believers. It's nice to see those viewpoints being verified by the likes of Wayne Swan and Kuddly Kev.
Any election will be a bloodbath, but the sooner the better. After that the ALP will take decades to put itself back together.
