Greens hardly all over Murray-Darling
It appears that the Greens have called for a Senate Inquiry on the Murray-Darling; the problem is, we already have one. Maybe they are not aware of it. The Rural Affairs and Transport Senate Committee already have an ongoing inquiry into the Murray-Darling.
The Greens’ seeming ignorance of the Murray -Darling process is more concerning than perplexing. How can they know what the impact of the plan will be on Deniliquin if they don't even know what is going on in the Senate?
Even though the Greens have been absent from the Murray-Darling Basin hearings so far they are welcome to this committee's hearings which will begin in the next few months.
More ominous than the Greens' belated attention to the process is their desire to question the integrity of the Act against the outcome.
What they are basically saying is that if they don’t like the outcome they will take it to court and have the plan thrown out, which will lead us back to where they want to go which is 7600 gigalitres removed from the basin and destitution for the people who live there.
The Greens don't want a triple bottom line outcome; they want a green, environmental outcome.
The Coalition stands ready to discuss with Mr Burke ways to secure a triple bottom line immune from legal challenge. We will continue to fight for an outcome that secures the economic and social security of the motel owners, mortgage holders, chemist shops and the irrigation industry, which sustains the economic fabric of this vitally important piece of Australia agriculture.

Watching ABC 24. What a clusterfcku! Rudd obviously got wind that Gillard was going to give him the boot when he got back so it appears that he got his retaliation in first. Apparently he did not inform Gillard about his intentions - merely had a letter of resignation dropped into her office as he was appearing in front of the cameras.
Bruce Hawker is obviously Rudd's campaign manager and would seem to indicate that the strategy is the 2 prong ballot.
Just announced that Gillard will announce a ballot.
How on earth did this shower of scheissen ever get trusted with running the country??

Watching TV is amazing. They are all coming out and slagging each other off. Most of the points they are making against each other's side are points that have been discussed ad nauseum on previous Oz politics threads and yet were denied, denied and denied by the true believers. It's nice to see those viewpoints being verified by the likes of Wayne Swan and Kuddly Kev.
Any election will be a bloodbath, but the sooner the better. After that the ALP will take decades to put itself back together.
