I muss say that this debacle is really turning surreal... As most observers I did not expect a miracle yet it would seem that the package is even less competitive than last year. Quiet an achievement!

I think Honda must have misunderstood the "4 engine limit" rule and assumed it meant 4 engines per race...

It becomes *slightly* more understandable when you remember that Honda came back into F1 to provide an opportunity to develop young engineers and hot-house their skills. That's why they've refused to hire people with experience from other manufacturers. But it will remain awfully embarrassing (and expensive) while these skills are still "developing".

but it detracts from the drama of a fast pit-stop.

As apposed to the real expected drama of on track racing. No wonder the seats on the pit straight are so expensive. They can watch cars go by in high speed procession, perhaps even a DRS overtake with no skill whatsoever, or they can watch a circus called a pit-stop where 12 clowns apply for a job at KwikFit.

I have been watching earlier races from a decade and more ago.
Apart from when refuelling was involved, there were many pitstops for tyres only that averaged 6 seconds stationary rather than the current 3 seconds.
Pitcrews have practised hard to achieve these quicker stops.

Amazing work!

On another note, Honda starting to look up now with their 2nd day of testing, ie 81 laps, 4th place on the time sheets, and no negativity.

Honda are also exploring the possibility of supplying engines to one or possibly two further teams from next year, and although Ron Dennis was against such an idea, Eric Boullier is said not to be, as long as such an arrangement is not disadvantageous to McLaren, apparently.

No. It is a brilliant well drilled military style operation. The debate amongst many is whether it should be part of the pinnacle of high speed car racing, or is it just a gimmick? I suspect there will be many who will have to 'agree to disagree'.

Were those posts double-stacked under the safety car?

I'll blame it on a stuttering keyboard (but really happened was that I wanted to edit the post but somehow posted again).

'Autosport' is reporting that Sauber is in advanced negotiations with Honda for an engine supply next year.

Now why would they do that ?

Next year's engines must be declared to the FIA by 6 May, so expect an announcement by Honda/Sauber one way or the other very soon. Sauber were not best pleased with one-year-old Ferrari engines, apparently. One positive for Honda in a potential new arrangement is that they will be able to garner more data by running more engines. (Lawrence Barretto at motorsport.com)

Van Doorne is expected to take a 15-place grid penalty for exceeding the number of engine components allowable for the whole season - and this is before the fourth race.

Since he is running around 15th anyway, this will drop him five spots to the back of the grid. No pressure, and fresh tyres!!!
