I believe it is Salisbury, and I'm ashamed for not having recognised it myself as I know Salisbury really well (the one in England and the one that used to be the capital of Rhodesia).
It pretty much looks like the spire of St. Michael’s church in Bernkastel-Kues. Formerly it was part of the medieval town wall, later being integrated into the church. OH if correct.
I was trying to tie it up with the place names on the road sign below the bridge. The lovely town of Bernkastel Kues would certainly fit that. So does the image below:

Thanks. It was with a few that I worked out were Italy, so anything is possible. They also visited Switzerland in the same trip, I think. Again, my deepest appreciation for your input.
If it's where I think, it's only a few miles west of the border between France and Italy. Someone with better ability may be able to confirm my informed guess.
