Collective nouns

The English language has some wonderfully anthropomorphic collective nouns for the various groups of animals.

We are all familiar with a Herd of cows, a Flock of chickens, a School of fish and a Gaggle of geese.

However, less widely known is a Pride of lions, a Murder of crows (as well as their cousins the rooks and ravens), an Exaltation of doves and, presumably because they look so wise, a Parliament of owls.

Now consider a group of Baboons. They are the loudest, most dangerous, most obnoxious, most viciously aggressive and least intelligent of all primates. And what is the proper collective noun for a group of baboons?

Believe it or not ....... a Congress!

I guess that pretty much explains the things that come out of Washington...

No Con, that would be just too sad.

The Joke or the fkin deceit was on the poor bastards that were fooled into beleiving the the "west" was under threat from such, when in fact the "west" fell under greater risk of attack after the reaction to the big bluff.

Galaxy,

You missed a few things. GWB never gutted education in Texas. GWB never tried to make money off of mandatory "vaccinations" of the Texas teenage girls. GWB never called for succession. GWB never tried to rape FEMA of disaster funds because a few of his buds lost their only, or one of their, vacation homes. GWB never said lost vacation homes were equal or more important than the death and destruction seen in Alabama due to the devastating tornadoes.

The one we got now makes any of the past look good. All said and done, I suspect that Sultan likes him now, knowing that he can't run for President again.

However, there is Jeb.......

With Hussein and Reza Shah Pahlavi, we had the deal buttoned up, And since Saddam was our guy, I felt we should erase our mistake. Off the weasel, and make restitution. Now restitution would have been a homeland for the North, and protection for the Marsh people in the South.

But Nooooo......this is where the process takes over, and logic takes a holiday. Knowing action would be taken, why the charade? Assemble an alliance? Of course, but the UNITED NATIONS?

America is the Hammer, primacy goes with the territory, and no apologies. Like Nixon, Clinton, and the others: Why the LIES? Fear? Of What? Bad PRESS? What is this ages old hair shirt about being the big DOG? We are better than our leaders, of that I can be quite confident.

The Fruits of Elite Immunity

It is ironic that our government loves to demand that other countries hold their political leaders accountable for their actions, and lecture them on the need for rule of law. Yet, when our leaders flagrantly violate the law, we're supposed to look forward, not backwards.

Dick Cheney was integral in waging a war with Iraq that left thousands of Americans and over a million Iraqi's dead; in establishing a systemic policy of torture; and in aggressive domestic warrantless surveillance. Now he's wrote a book which brags about the crimes he committed and was immunized from.

What do you guys think about this?

2001 to 2011: A Decade of Civil Liberties Erosion in America

This is a very good in depth article, and illustrates, quite accuracy between the state of affairs in this country. It's a must read for anybody who cares about civil rights.

What are your opinions on this?

Thank you for proving my statement and congratulations on your new position in Opposition Research at the Obama 2012 campaign. I think I shall enjoy a Perry Administration just for the entertainment value of watching Obamabots squirm and scream.

Only crimes if he actually broke any laws. As far as I'm aware the lawyers are divided, of course the huggy fluffies are in the he did court.

Again, your link gives a different figure from that which you are saying, so stop exaggerating.

And do tell us ONE law Cheney personally broke regarding Iraq. I don't want any waffle about it being an "illegal war", or any rubbish about "torturing" anyone, I want a specific law broken by Cheney personally and not some supposition regarding the possibility that a Government decision may have been illegal depending on someone's interpretation of a law in any country.

Yeah, and if the President (or Vice President) does it, that means that it's not illegal right?

Oh, so I can talk about the crimes he committed, except the crimes he committed, ordered, implemented, recommended or approved (all of which in the eyes of the law are illegal)?

Uh International Law regarding Torture is pretty specific. It forbids it under any and all circumstances. Therefore if he ordered torture, recommended torture, approved torture, or tried to redefine the definition of torture -- is illegal.

Torture
When is it that people like you will begin to understand that messing with someone's mind is not torture? Torture is the judicious application of pain to extract information be that information factual or simply a response designed to avoid further physical abuse, (think carefully about what I said there before you respond).

The fluffy view of torture, (the comfy chair), is irrelevant - it's meaning is quite clear.
