Watching a documentary tother night about Abe Lincoln and the thought struck, nobody as ugly as Abe would ever be elected President these days.
Likewise nobody looking like Churchill would ever win a election here again, how shallow we have become.

Drapes, remember Nixon winning the debate in a poll of radio listeners, but losing the same debate in the poll of telly addicts? Half a century of style over substance, I'm afraid, and the proletariat have bought into it.

Also while Churchill did win various elections (for divers political parties) as an MP his party never won an election while he was in charge so he never could be said to have won an election as Prime Minister.

Will that be apart from the election of 1951 which the Conservatives won under Churchill's leadership?

The Election of Obama proves effective marketing can get an empty suit into the office.

The problem that follows is preventing the truth from being found out....and as we can see...that is an all together different kettle of fish.

Anyone care to wager we hear nothing about "Hope and Change" this go around?

Cost of Living...UP

Poverty....UP

Jobless....UP

Deficit...UP

Debt...UP

Spending....UP

House Prices...DOWN

Job Creation...DOWN

Economy....DOWN

Solutions....TAX and SPEND...TAX Corporate Jets, TAX Rich folks (now down to $200,000 yearly income)

Yet, the Dumbass still thinks the American People just don't get it despite how many times he tells us!

How many of the people that voted for him to show they were not Racist....will have to vote against him this time to show they are not stupid?

I voted for him, SASless. And not to prove I'm not a racist either. I will, however, not vote for him again. I've learned my lesson about change you can believe in.

I read this posting of yours as well. This one is impressive. You mix reasons, quotes, and even wars decades apart.
Well, the term "bomb them back to the stone age" was used in Vietnam, however during the firebombing raids in Tokyo, he did gloat about the death and destruction he wrought. If I recall, the words were "scorched, boiled, and baked to death". I figured a guy like him would not have any major objection with boiling a couple of dozen thousand Japanese away in a brilliant flash of Gamma rays.

As for the link you provided me...

Quote:
On September 20, 1945 the famous "hawk" who commanded the Twenty-First Bomber Command, Major General Curtis E. LeMay (as reported in The New York Herald Tribune) publicly:
said flatly at one press conference that the atomic bomb "had nothing to do with the end of the war." He said the war would have been over in two weeks without the use of the atomic bomb or the Russian entry into the war. (See p. 336, Chapter 27)
The text of the press conference provides these details:

LeMay: The war would have been over in two weeks without the Russians entering and without the atomic bomb.
The Press: You mean that, sir? Without the Russians and the atomic bomb?

. . .

LeMay: The atomic bomb had nothing to do with the end of the war at all.
...confirms exactly what I said earlier

Yes, and the point is, you should be able to find your own information, your own links, and do your own research instead of the slipshod postings that you make. I read the link, in full, I already knew what it said.

That is the point, not whether you happened to get a single fact correct.

Ostensibly, you're a grown-up person, though I'm beginning to have my doubts.

So far as I am aware, you don't know a single thing about Major General Curtis LeMay's personal makeup beyond a handful of quotes that you have read. This doesn't give you some kind of special insight into the man's psychological makeup.

When you write things like:
Quote:
"I figured a guy like him would not have any major objection with boiling a couple of dozen thousand Japanese away in a brilliant flash of Gamma rays."
You figured wrong, if his quote is to be believed, and you seem to buy that as well. This inconsistency on your part continues to demonstrate how little you do indeed know and how superficial your thought processes and analyses are.

Since this thought of yours contradicts entirely what LeMay was quoted as saying, which is it?

You can't have it both ways.

And to think you put people on ignore.

To Governor Perry: Ordering vaccinations for all, and then allowing "Opt Out", is NOT a choice. Offering vaccinations to girls and their parents on an "Opt IN" basis, is a choice. You are history to me.

President Obama: "We'll have Jobs for young people, for the unemployed, for old people, for everyone."

Liberal BASE: "Mr. President, isn't WORK optional?"

Obama is too late, by now too many people expect to be taken care of, and offering them a job only gets them angry. You are history to them.

Too much treasure has been spent on making the tassled loafer set on Wall Street rich...... and they have never "worked".

My favorite Uncle, Colonel Ed, bombed Tokyo from his Texas Doll prior to Little Boy and Fat Man. To his dying day, his life stopped, and this ordinarily ebullient Pilot got quiet, when The fire bombing came up. I listen to no one re: the fire bombing. Unless you were there. Evil has worn the Flag of many Nations throughout Time, mostly because we had to let it.

Jane, there's winning wars and then there is "Winning wars". One thing you don't want to have to do is go back sometime again and fight the same f!ggen enemy all over. With Germany they where a beaten people, broken if you will, at the end of WW2, prime for molding into what we wanted.

The fact that the victors wanted them to have democratic system and the threat of the Soviets all contributed to what they are today. I don't believe the Japanese people where ever broken, but again I think the treat from abroad and the devastating nature of the atomic attacks probally contributed to them being able to be made into the country it is today.

The Japanese may well have surrendered, but they may well have wanted it on their terms.

Sorry Barry,

Another loss in the Dem column. A Republican won a long held Democratic Congressional Seat formerly held by the disgraced Anthony Weiner.

Apparently, Weiner left a bad taste in their mouth.

Quote:
The heavily Democratic district spanning parts of Queens and Brooklyn had never sent a Republican to the House. But frustration with the continued weak national economy gave Republicans the edge.

The latest data shows that almost 1 in 6 Americans are living in poverty.
This is the highest level in many years. And it is without doubt a disgrace.

Yet another example of change you can believe in. Chump change I believe it's called.

The hell with the pitch forks. I suggest the use of Molotov cocktails as an impetus to change we can ALL believe in.

Yo rg. This "poverty" metric is a time worn tool of the FEDTRIC

It ain't so, right? It is always so, it's like saying "there's Unemployment"

There is always unemployment, likewise, always Poverty, Illness, etc.

Too much? Once that is 'determined', the townspeople will demand ACTION, I tell you. What is action? Generally stuff that looks like 'action', costs a Trillion give or take, and causes more of the very problem it was intended to remedy.

The day the People lost control, real control, was the day of the First Session of the First Congress.

We did that, WE. The People. So your cocktazil reference is apt, most apt.

'One does not ask the people who caused the Problem, to fix it.' (Einstein).

Believe it or not, the bellwether of American revolt is Sarah Palin. Her bedrock is "keeping things local". Now that is not a perfect solution, as I have stories to tell about local government, but it is a start.

So be careful with your gazoline gimlets, rg, they don't travel well, and when used at home, people will take it personally.

DEFUND WASHINGTON DC. Without money, they are as a fly on the arse of America. They have little real power, most of it is used sparingly, and it does not last in the exposure of great popular dissent.

Maybe this "Internets" thing has a future. just sayin'
