The Met....credit cards and...."words of advice"

Whether you are pro or anti Police in this instance neither is relevant.

What is relevant however, is the basis of the decision and why were no controls in place to prevent the abuse. Everywhere I've worked and been allocated company funding ( in whatever form ) there has always been the minor detail of, er, accountability for expediture incurred. Now "flexible working hours" you could probably get away with...up to a point, but try fiddling a claim and see how long you lasted.

So what, I wonder, were the "words of advice" offered.

If one were to trust the BBC for a nanosecond:

Quote:
These included officers and staff who purchased personal items and later repaid the money or bought equipment that should have been purchased by other means.
Now, how many people here have not at one point or another needed to get around your purchasing dept. in order to buy items without which work could not continue?

Methinks that's what most of the "abuse" was about and hence why only "words of advice"? The rest could well be the Beeb just doing their usual sensationalising.

BBC vs Police

That's an interesting question for a Brit. Who does one trust more - the BBC or the police?
In the end, it is a non-question, as both are made up of human beings, who can make mistakes. The BBC with their Oxbridge, "pinkoes and trots" and Nigel/Rupert backgrounds just tend to make bigger and worse mistakes than the police.

On balance given recent evidence about corruption and expenses, I would trust the police more than the BBC.
And the police work harder and earn less, so per head are probably better value.

Happens all the time (category B) for a variety of reasons many of which make sense (except to the people who process the paperwork).

Yup counseling is needed as well as the understanding that the additional paperwork (reassignment of debit) may be justified as an actual savings in time.

I have lots of experience on both sides of this

Wonder if they were repaying Amex expenses but having airmiles assigned to their personal account?

Are there really people who admit to being anti-police? Do you mean that there are citizens over the age of twelve who don`t want a police force ?
Can you kindly describe an instance where being anti-police, in a Western Democracy, is relevant?

Are you joking? They have been trying to clean the Met up for years without a great deal of success. Next off someone will try to tell us that nobody at the climate protest was treated with other than the utmost care and consideration and the West Midlands lot in the 70s or 80s who fitted loads of people up were just a little misguided and needed a gentle word.

Misuse of public funds is exactly that, actually it is attempted theft. If coppers can't understand that they should not be in the job.
