Bugging device frequencies.

I want to check a property quickly and discreetly. I have a scanner that covers most hf, vhf & uhf freqs.

My question is, what is a typical TX frequency band, these things use?

Don't really want to go through the whole spectrum, as I don't have the time.

Any input would be appreciated.

I see...

You want to break into a property, and make sure the alarm system doesn't use some kind of WiFi or other RF means to notify the local police and security services of your presence?

I shouldn't worry... most alarm systems rely on producing a loud noise meant to deter you. After about ten minutes, maybe you should leave the premises, because by that time the neighbours may have started complaining, or an automatic system might have dialed the local security firm.

The way I read it, the OP wants to check if a property has been bugged ... not break into it?

Anyway, Google is your friend:

Christaan, don't be silly.

All above board from my angle. The office i work at I suspect is audio bugged. Just want the proof and possibly the location.

Not such a big deal, is it?

Ken

Thanks for the info!

That's your story...
This is PPRuNe..... AND JetBlast!

Just don't forget to look into some of the ancient James Bond tricks....
Mess around with a 'phone, easy to overlook, but it works.
Plug something into the local mains... if smartly engineered it won't even radiate, but will still transmit over a more than useable range.

Good luck!

RF transmitting bugging devices old hat.

l@ser bounced off window glass from nearby location more common, doesn't need installation, doesn't need entry, uses non-visible spectrum so can't be seen.

Electricity

Don't need no bugs no more. Electricity cables will transmit all you want/need to hear.

What you really need is a Frequency Sniffer.

It's a sensitive frequency counter that will pick up and display the frequency of any nearby transmitter. Then you can use your scanner to listen to it.

Xifcinosam . . .

You are quite right about your office.

As you suspected, your boss is about to fire you. He overheard your comments in the men's room. As we all did.

PS: Despite your suspicions, Gladys is heterosexual.

In the modern world, "frequency" has ceased to be a particularly relevant concept for radio signalling.. Goodbye Marconi, hello noise.

Entirely correct - with the advent of encryption being prevalent by the time you have decrypted it you days behind - and thats with the known algorithms.
