Yes, It's that time of year again and I have a stinker of a cold. I was wondering what everyone else uses for their hot toddy recipe. My favourite at the moment is honey, lemon juice, hot water and a goodly slug of Scotch! What's your favourite?
Piping hot milk, add Cognac till sweat breaks out on your forehead, add a few spoonfuls of good honey, sprinkle with cinnamon. Repeat until you fall over. Worrying about tomorrow is for tomorrow. Per
Standard Northern Ireland recipe....Big glug of IRISH spoonful of sugar few cloves chunk of lemon...top up with hot water and........enjoy. Repeat until you slip into oblivion
Beat me to it Eastern, wedge of lemon with cloves stuck in it (prevents unsightly sipping) sugar. Then you can debate with a barman/wife whether Powers, Paddy or Bush is best. Taste testing can be damaging.
Oddly enough as I was driving back from Dublin yesterday in a typical anti cyclonic gloom with the bare trees looking very wintery. I got to thinking it was hot toddy time of the year.
Foss and Eastern, that's not just Northern Irish but all Ireland But it has to be Jameson!
Aye Corsair, I know that right enough. Then there's the problem, do you use a fresh glass every time or let the lemons build up, is it honey or sugar from the bowl (yeah honey/throat but who cares to be honest) warm glass or cold glass and how many can you order in a bar politely before the barman gets really cheesed off making hot toddys for about five people. (Once one person gets one, everyone gets one, it's like yawning)
Round our way, everyone rocks up to Berry Bros outlet store in Basingstoke to buy some 'King's Ginger' which is a vodka based rocket fuel. It works brilliantly in toddies, with a bit of lemon juice, honey and hot water. Two or three and it's goodnight vienna. TN
Not a chance, after a couple or few hot toddys and everyone would start talking at normal speed, you wouldn't have a hope. I'd be scribbling furiously doing subtitles, or saying 'What he meant was...'
