R4,148,875 will buy you a pretty nice house in Cape Town.
Not top bracket (R15m on up) but good.

Invested, it would give you a reasonable income...

Depressed? reviving a long closed thread, This is depressed

That was in 2007.

My mum had is sussed. She'd spend a pound, then put the ticket on the mantle for a week or more. Every few hours she'd get that frisson of excitement when she looked at it. More pleasure than a quid normally buys.

My paternal grandmother won the football pools, in about 1969. She decided it wasn't going to change her life and she never cashed the cheque.

Mind you, it was only for one shilling and eleven pence.

True story!

Depressed back then? Maybe not but you'd get a very nice house indeed with that money at today's prices. Depressing maybe if you bought a house with the money back then!

I know someone who won the Lotto as part of a syndicate. Collected a 'mere' £30,000.

I'll tell you what's depressing. It's the number of lottery jackpots never collected.

I do the lottery on the simple basis that someone, somewhere always wins. Right up the moment those balls tumble out of the machine you have exactly the same chance as that winner.

But my main hope of a windfall is with the horses. Pick six put a tenner on the accumulator and cover the trebles. Hit the crossbar the other day. Five winners out of six. The official race report for the other horse was as follows: 'Into lead, comfortably clear when unseating rider at that last' Cost me ten grand that little tumble!
