Airbus confirms 10,000 job cuts

Well, there goes another bit of UK industry.

Quote:
Troubled planemaker Airbus has announced it is to cut 10,000 jobs across Europe over the next four years.

France will be worst hit with 4,300 job losses. Germany will see 3,700 jobs go while the UK and Spain will see 1,600 and 400 jobs cut respectively.

Airbus boss Louis Gallois said the firm was "facing huge challenges" and "was not efficient enough".

Airbus has been struggling in the wake of production delays to its flagship A380 superjumbo project.

Mr Gallois said the weak US dollar had also made the changes necessary.

I liked the way M Gallois delivered his announcement in ENGLISH with a simultaneous GERMAN translation.
Now there's diplomacy for you . . .

Taken from the BBC header page:

Aside from the fact that, in my book, a "planemaker" is a manufacturer of woodworking tools, is the Beeb right to describe Airbus as "struggling"?

Cool

Is this the same number of jobs that Boeing cut just as it was about to introduce the 747 back yonder? Just asking to cause trouble you understand...

(Or does history have to repeat because nobody listens the first time?)

ISTR the programme almost sent Boeing broke.

Nonetheless it is always sad to hear of people losing their jobs - unless they are selected politicians and civil servants.

Yes, the 747 nearly finished Boeing. Not too long after its introduction I was camping in a Western park. Got talking to other campers. One was a Boeing engineer. Apparently they really didn't want to lose him but the job they found to keep him was designing what was needed on the 747 to accomodate the loos. At least he had a job while many others didn't.

Despite my cynicism, with this I agree!

It did not involve an actor and a FA, did it?

Sad news. Yet more manufacturing down the tubes.

No doubt they'll be replaced by a load of pointless office jobs as seems to be the way nowadays.
