Still a long way to go to November. I doubt America will elect a black Afro American with Islamic connections who has published material that shows that both he and his wife are not totally committed to America, as it is now and not just the black population.
A lot of raz mataz still to go but eventually a very obviously totally American patriot will win out over a young, slick and smart lad who has pinned his colourers to the racial mast before he became a presidential candidate but is now trying desperately to change all that.
Having watched several hours of CNBC, ABC and CNN it isn't hard to work out where the reporters sympathies are lodged, they have chosen to follow the lame duck, a fairly left of centre and rather obvious trait.
Re-read a good line today in an editorial about how 'politics should stop at the waterline.'
Good advice.
All the carping and 'gotcha's' from both sides during the Clinton and Bush Administrations only serve to demean the authority, gravitas, and respect for the Office of the Presidency both at home and abroad.
Coupled with the 24/7 media and the youtube effect, I fear that no man or woman of any substance will ever set foot in the Oval Office again.
For example, can you imagine the press coverage of Harry Truman's poker and whisky gatherings? Can you imagine JFK's series of 'on the side' affairs being ignored?
I wonder what the reaction in NYC would be if the next candidate for Chancellor of Germany held an election rally at the foot of the Statue of Liberty.

I think it would be a toss up between (Bronx accent on) "What da f*ck is some Kraut doin' over der by the statue?"
or
Yawn......
Best comment I've heard about the Messiah's, er Obama's German speech was, "200,000 Germans turned out to cheer him. He's clearly loved in Europe. Of course, no one's ever been elected to be President of the United States by Europeans."
Interesting article on the media's stirring disillusionment.
Apparently Obama couldn't meet the requests for limiting media and staff at this scheduled visit:
Obama adviser Robert Gibbs initially said that the visit was canceled because the campaign thought, "it would be inappropriate to make a stop to visit troops at a U.S. military facility as part of a trip funded by the campaign."
What? I don't get it. You can go everywhere else in your trip and adhere to requirements by those hosts, but you can't make it to see wounded troops? Dear BO, that could cost you.
Stay tuned for further spinning by the meisters...

Upon arriving at the Elysee Palace, Obama greeted a crowd of reporters with a simple, "Bonjour!"
That from BO, wait til the Swiftboaters get a hold of that--Kerry was killed for looking French, Obama is speaking it. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
Other funny story from Europe, one of his policy advisors defended Obama's trip by saying when the president travels and speaks overseas, his speeches are not political events, but cover policy. A reporter answered back, "he's not the President".
When I worked for Laker Airways we used to spend about seven days a month in Berlin with German/Austrian cabin crew and after a round trip to the Canaries/Greece etc. we would all go off for a beer, ( but not always to Stuttgartplatz!).
One of the lovely ladies told me that Berliners never had such a laugh as when JFK announced , "Ich bin ein Berliner" as he was declaring himself a sausage, similar to saying he was a Frankfurter, both being well known sausages in Germany at the time, apparently something like, "Ich bin auf Berlin" would have been more appropriate. Every time I hear a repeat of the JFK speech I listen to the initial roar as he says it and it certainly sound like a lot of people having a laugh. No doubt Myth Busters will prove me wrong!

You see, when an anointed one is exposed by the "wrong kind" of mediaperson, guess which one suffers?
(For the elucidation of non-Colonials, renegade radio/TV man Don Imus was canned a few weeks later, allegedly for "racist" remarks about a college womens' basketball team. Those remarks were lighthearted and fairly within accepted norms of conversation, leading many to ponder the REAL reason for Imus' dismissal.)
John McCain is a former Naval Aviator, a POW, something of a hero, a fairly solid conservative Senator, and his wife is a pretty woman who owns a brewery.
Then there is this other fellow who has a glib tongue.
