Can someone pls tell McCain that Czechoslovakia doesn't exists anymore since 1993? Resemblance with Bush's famous foreign politics knowledge is striking.

One thing about the New Yorker cover....nobody that supports Obama has the slightest sense of humor. One writer to the Times says that America needs Obama too much to make fun of him (paraphrasing). THAT is proof positive that we DO NOT need him. Such pretension!!!

Sense of humour?

You must be joking!

East Coast liberals think they have been sent from Heaven above to enlighten the Genitals. You just try making some teeny-tiny joke that even hints that their latest version of the Messiah might just be another naughty boy and you will either get gibbering, puce-faced rage or else a huge helping of condescension at your pitiful and obvious lack of intelligence. No, there is only one opinion to have: theirs! That is their version of Freedom of Thought, of course. Think anything you like, so long as it is the same thing they think, the same as what their friends think and the same as what they read, see and listen to tells them to think.

For example: I had a sister who was much loved by me but also a bit of a problem. Well, she was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of New York University but she didn't have enough common sense to pour piss out of a boot if the directions were printed on the heel. I was on one of my rare visits to my mother when she wafted in. The conversation drifted to a mutual friend of theirs named Jack, who was just ever so gay and multi-talented but had been suffering from AIDS.

"Oh, yes... he died, you know. Weighed 80 pounds at the end... Sigh..."

A brief pause as my sister gazed up into a corner of the room, seeming to communicate with the fairies and then, "You know, I think that gay people have a really healthy life-style..."

Cue the usual cave-man explosion from me, "Healthy? Dying at age 35 weighing 80 pounds is healthy? What do you call 'sick' then?"

"Oh... I didn't mean THAT, of course..."

"Okay, what did you mean?"

"Oh, just that the way they act, I think they feel good about themselves..."

She's dead now, poor thing, but if she were alive she would definitely be voting for Obama with no jokes allowed. She could make jokes about the working-class people who came to do repairs and renovations, the hicks and hillbillies, the stupid names they gave their kids and the stupid cars they drove, the stupid stuff they ate and the stupid questions they asked about stuff like quiche. That was allowed because they were not taught to think and say the right things. But to mock the real people saying the right things... She would go into Dalek mode, squawking "EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!" if anyone tried that. I made a joke about the ballet once and got nuked.

So please do not look for a sense of humour in the Obama camp.

I work in Cambridge, MA, which is overrun with people like your late sister. They are far too arrogant and self-important to have a sense of humor.

They lean towards socialist/communist solutions to all of societies ills (with them in charge, of course), because the unwashed like you and me are just not smart enough to make decisions for ourselves.

Not to be unfair...

Not everyone has this reality cut-out fitted. Hopefully, not even most people!

There are plenty of people who vote Democrat for perfectly good, well thought-out reasons, just as there are some deeply deluded Republicans, just not deluded in the same way we are here referring to. For every loony left Dem with a head full of moonbeams I could show you something as bad or worse on the Far Right, some vicious little toe-rag such as Terry Dolan.

It is more social than political, this problem I have seen, but the gap between these two areas can be just wide enough for a cigarette paper. From the ones I know, the Democratic deluded were very, very good students who took a sort of pseudo-religious approach to what they had learned.

I remember one earnest little Marlboro College classmate telling us that she knew that "the average African" wanted a college education. I said that from what I knew of the Third World I thought that a Papermate biro, a Flying Pigeon bicycle and a Seiko wristwatch might be a bit more like it. No, she told us with a pitying smile, she had spent a year in Kenya as an exchange student and "all" of the people she met wanted a college education. She really took it amiss when I tried to hint that perhaps she had not met a representative cross-section of the Kenyan population by going to an elite school in Nairobi and in fact had probably not even bothered to ask the servants this question. It was just so crude to let reality intrude into this wonderful dream, I guess.

In the same way, to suggest that Obama is just another politician, when he is obviously the Messiah, is also being crude. It is not as if I could prove that he is not the Messiah, so why should I be raining on their parade?

In fact, though, I think that whether Obama wins or loses is not as important as this feeling of being on the moral high ground, running the holiest candidate to date, the one who is morally entitled to be President whatever the stupid people who don't know enough to vote for him might do.

I am not joking here; just think about how in the world "The New Yorker" could run this disputed cover if they had any respect at all for the fear and scepticism that Middle America might have. No, here we have a way of just shouting, "Boo!" and then laughing at them for being frightened, the dummies!

You know, if I wanted something from any of you, should I start by suggesting that you really are not very bright? Meaning no disrespect, of course!

You know, here the nice people in New York are as good as saying to the people in fly-over country, "We know sooo much better than you do what is what with this rather unusual couple, the Obamas, so that if you choose not to vote for them, well, that just shows how tragically stupid, ignorant and bigoted you really are. We just want to point that out... it is nothing personal. Now be sure to vote the way you have just been told to."

It is the paranoia over the NY cartoon/cover that separates the "liberal" establishment from the true liberal - faithful to the etymology of the word - who is able to recognize who is actually being skewered!

Obama "on track"

I wouldn't worry to much about all of this. I saw on CNN that Obama has raised $53 million in July alone, and has $72 million 'on hand'. Clearly, he plans to buy the election, fair and square.

Amen, brother...

Another thing folks from outside America often misunderstand is the role that money plays in our elections. If it were always decisive then whatever happened to Nelson Rockefeller?

You can have a really huge pile of cash but all that does is help you market yourself. If the electorate are not in a mood to buy then the cash won't always carry the day.

I think that Obama is just a bit too exotic for America, exactly what this cartoon was saying in its painfully clumsy way. We will go for the Big Mac with Cheese and not a shawarma. Well, just four months to go to see who is right about this one! Followed by four years for Hillary to get the product right for re-marketing, perhaps.

The most recent example of this was Mitt Romney's primary campaign -- Romney spent $110M USD ($45M from his own pocket) on his campaign and he still sank without a trace.

Copy of an email I received today. Veracity? I have no idea but would not surprise me if it were fact.

Just in case you happened to see the ABC News piece (if you watch ABC News) with interviews of 5 military folks in Iraq - 3 planned to vote for Obama and 2 for Hillary; no mention of any McCain supporters. Well, here’s the “Rest of the Story.”

This from Major General (ret) Buckman.
"My niece, Katelyn, stationed at Baluud , Iraq was assigned, with others of her detachment, to be escort/guard/watcherfor Martha Raddatz of ABC News as she covered John McCain’s recent trip to Iraq . Katelyn and her Captain stood directly behind Raddatz as she queried GIs walking past. They kept count of the GIs and you should remember these numbers. She asked 60 GIs who they planned to vote for in November. 54 said John McCain, 4 for Obama and 2 for Hillary. Katelyn called home and told her Mom and Dad to watch ABC news the next night because she was standing directly behind Raddatz and maybe they’d see her on TV. Mom and Dad of course, called and emailed all the kinfolk to watch the newscast and maybe see Katelyn. Well, of course, we all watched and what we saw wasn’t a glimpse of Katelyn, but got a great view of skewed news. After a dissertation on McCain’s trip and speech, ABCshowed 5 GIs being asked by Raddatz how they were going tovote inNovember; 3 for Obama and 2 for Clinton . No mention of the 54 for McCain."

If you think the "news" media is not biased, you are living on the wrong planet.

Sadly you are correct. Obama is leaving on a trip to Afghanistan, Iraq and a few more counties. All three major network anchor 'persons' (NBC, ABC, CBS) will travel with Obama. McCain has been to Iraq, Afghanistan and a few more countries 5 times since running for the Presidency and not one anchor 'person' has gone with him.

Duh!

I do realize that some folks here totally hate 'Fox News', but sometimes they do have the true story and facts correct.

Sorry to pop your hate bubble, 'Fox News' haters.

Katelyn, Raddatz, etc.

Read what Snopes has to say. Read the whole thing!

Even though Snopes hangs a "false" tag on the report, it looks to me that's merely a repeat of Raddatz' statement. Judge for yourself. Snopes is usually more astute than this.

Haven't been around for a few days, but I'm amused that when I come back the same people are bolstering each others views in a comfortable little group I like to compare to Paedophiles Monthly. It must be so comforting to group together and pat each others backs while all the opposition has given up in disgust.

I'll leave you all to it. You can't do any harm here. For god's sake listen to yourselves; without a dissenting viewpoint you're just pissing in each other's pockets.

Well Binos how about a desenting view? You might even re engage on a few other threads where your view, and those of your comrades, has been notably absent.

Or have you had an epiphany along the lines of "Krudd really is a tree hugging retard after all - what was I thinking?"

What do I think will happen come November?

A landslide for the team that wants to drill for oil. Its the only thing on the agenda that the voters care about and the Democrats, like Krudd's Labor and the ETS, are too ideologically trapped to see it for what it is...an election loser.

Bino's

If you want something that isn't to your liking, avoid this thread. Aviation in the US in large part employs a great of middle of the road to right leaning folks. If you want opinions that you fancy, go find a liberal blog. There are plenty to be had.
If you choose to stay, you'll need to accept the leanings of those of us who post frequently. Debate it, show us the error of our ways, introduce fact but don't whine about it.

Dissent

I think this has been, and remains a most interesting thread. Anyone who cannot see and appreciate the depth and scope of the differing views expressed here is keeping one eye, or perhaps even a mind, closed.
Ah well, marsupials were never known for their percipience.

Informed comment...

This Paedophile's Monthly... are you a regular reader, with a subscription or do you just read it now and then? "Pack of Salem Menthols, a Bic lighter, and a copy of Paedophile's Monthly, please. No, don't bother with the plain brown wrapper, I'll be reading it on the bus home..."

How does your magazine compare to this happy band of brothers all stood around scratching, blinking in the glare outside the cave and being totally repellent to all right-thinking leftists such that they have fled the scene in disgust? I have to ask because I cannot connect the dots between a specialist publication and a group of primitives unable to appreciate that "Obama" spells "Messiah." Is it that we are obscene?
