Complex problems rarely have simple answers -- like vouchers.
Like I said in my original post, vouchers aren't the only answer. I said it was a start, just like "No Child Left Behind." Read the posts clearly next time, you'll see I wasn't assuming any easy answers. I was challenging the status quo.
I am, however, pleased that we agree that teachers should be paid more. I'm all for that as well. As long as the teachers perform. However, unions are fiercely opposed to standardized testing and performance evaluations on which to base incentive compensation.
Greetings El Grifo, hope you are well fella. It's miserable and cold here mate. Must come and see you next summer.
Con, a to be expected reposte from your fair hands
Maybe the chimp you elected twice should have had those attributes you list cos he may have faired a little better
I like the way Obama talks. He is intelligent, sharp and has a grasp for both domestic and international affairs. I think you might find that if elected, he will do your country credit. Let's face it, he doesn't have much to improve on
Well Bluewolf, you should take the bet. It's better than Paddy Power's odds. I think bookmakers make great judges. They don't care about politics, rhetoric or anything like that. They don't care who wins. They look at the numbers and work the odds. When they offer odds of 1-10 and 1.07 on one horse and 11/2 or 7.60 on another. You just know which way the tide is flowing.
I did think at one stage McCain would win and in some ways he may well have made a better president. But his performance hasn't exactly improved his chances. I seriously considered placing a bet on him at one time.
Obama is....well more presidential or maintains that appearance. He already looks and acts like a president. I thought Obama wouldn't win because frankly I couldn't see Americans elect a president, black or not with the kind of woolly vagueisms he uses. He'll be long on rhetoric and probably short on policies.
But the Republicans self destructed with the economy, a lame duck president and that Palin woman.
As for what happens in America not mattering, well where have some of you guys been for the last few months? When America catches cold we all catch pneunomia. When it catches Pneumonia well..........................
That's why everyone (nearly) is interested in the US presidential elections. And why we are all entitled to an opinion on what happens in the USA. Even if we are not entitled to tell Americans how to vote. Nor should we be.
Binos,
"Am I accusing middle America of innate racism? You betcha. You asked for it, you've got it. If McCain gets up there can be no other reason, no matter how you try to disguise it."
Bullshit!! Racism is where 98% of blacks polled are voting for Obama for the sole reason he is black, or half black, the other 2% are not voting for him cause he is not black enough.
Very simplistic granted, but about as factual as your racist statement.
Can they not both be true? I think so. I think if he gets elected it will be through a solid black vote, and if he does not, the swing will be those who do not want a black in the White House at any price. Frankly I believe that everyone in the world is racist, some more than others.
This voting unreliability is known here as the "McDonald Effect". Preliminary polling years ago showed that a federal minister, Flora McDonald, was a sure winner in an election, but she lost. On the numbers, that could only have been due to voters who had declared for her when asked, but voted against her in the polling booth.
You may look foward to a 70% tax rate coupled with a 21% intertest rate, I'm not
Spelling dear chap - have you been on the hard stuff a bit early tonight ?
I somehow doubt interest rates are going to be 21%. The mess the American sub-prime (that many other international banks stupidly bought into) courtesy of your Republican idols will ensure, that with impending recession, interest rates will remain low for the foreseeable future. Currency rates are going to depend upon how much money we all print to bail out the mess.
As for tax rates, a 60 year old pilot like yourself ? You'll live mate
I said it was a start, just like "No Child Left Behind."
Odd. I was in a board meeting tonight with two teachers that said NCLB was the biggest disaster they've seen in the whole careers. I'm not up to speed on the subject but I think it has something to do with funding. (No surprise there huh ?)
NCLB funding comes from Federal, State and local sources.
There's never enough. One of the first steps in any process improvement is data collection, and NCLB is a data-hungry beast. Not all school districts have the IT or other dBase resources to collect and report data.
It will take time, it is a start, it is not perfect. But it will lead to accountability, something desperately needed in entrenched bureaucracies like school administrations.
