Hillary and Barack are both media creations. She has passed no legislation worthy of note and has danced better than John Kerry on positions. She voted for the war but says IF she had been President she wouldn't have gone to war. Huh?
Obama is all sizzle and no meat. No experience except he speaks well and he appeases the far left. He has said nothing of substance to date except he wouldn't do things the way they have been done.. yet he has no track record to prove he would do anything.
Unfortunately, most Americans vote on feelings and not on facts so it will be a horse race for 08. The only comforting thing will be watching them beat the crap out of each other trying out out-left each other and out "I'm NOT GEORGE" each other.
And then you have the Breck girl, John Edwards, he of perfect hair and the Jimmy Carter smile. "Two Americas" is his pluralistic pandering while he sits in his new 20,000+ sqft almost $5 million home. In case no one remembers, Jimmy was the guy who sat on his thumbs for more than 400 days while the Iranians held the US hostage, he presided over an economy with interest rates of close to 20% and he striped the military of the money for any spare parts.. but he had a nice smile and admitted he had once lusted in his heart.
Obama was not and never was a muslim. He is a professing Christian and a reliable attendee of a Church of Christ congregation. (Those not familiar with denominational nuance - C of C is moderately bible-thumping.)
A school he attended for a little while in his childhood was predominantly Muslim. That is all. My schools were predominantly Baptist, but that didn't affect me (beer swilling backslid Methodist here)....
Arnie can't stand because he wasn't born in the US.
If there's a God, and America both wants and is due a good President, let it be John McCain.
Colin Powell could have, and probably should have, been America's first black President, and history would have recorded him as being one of the better ones. But someone would have shot him for being black, and the same will happen to Obama, should opportunity present.
Hillary....no, America isn't any more ready for a woman President than for a black President, and even if it were, she wouldn't be the right person. She's too shallow and self-interested and out of touch. Condi would be a far better and more competent pick.
Blue wolf I fear you are correct. It never made the mainstream media but there was, let us call it, "concensus insider rumour" that Colin Powell realised that there are still enough lunatic white supremacists with a gun to make it unlikely that a black president would make a second term.
I hope America has moved on. A country where you have to think of your safety before standing for president is less than a democracy.
hes got my vote, because Im from Illinois as well. The presidency/political system here is a joke. More people vote for American idol then they do for the president. Look at bush, how does a failure in school ex coke head alcki become president? And also what’s going on in California with the governator? Barack can at least pronounce his words right when he speaks, he’s already got a one-up on the current guy.
With the exception of Bush the elder following Reagan's two terms (and NOBODY wanted Dukakis in that election, including the Democrats),
Americans seem to grow tired of one party after 8 years in the White House.
Powell would be tied to the run-up to the Iraq war. Rice is definitely stuck with it, so I don't believe they'd run or have a chance in hell if they did.
McCain can probably win the nomination, but referring to the trend above, I believe it will be moot. Romney is a long shot; Guiliani can't win the nomination due to his social positions and the Republican base's. (I disagree with him on gun control, for example. I agree with him on other issues. I do think he'd be effective as the Chief Executive however.)
For the Democrats - Obama will not get the nod. Some Americans will not vote for him because he's black, some will not because he's seen as not 'black enough,' others will not because he won't raise enough money.
Hillary I hope will not win the nomination, but definitely has the best chance. If that is the case, then the Dems may actually lose the 2008 election. I don't believe women will vote for her in enough numbers, the far left is no longer enamored by her, and the Republicans will become Borg-like in their opposition to her. She will, however, raise the most money (and I was wrong about her winning a Senate seat in NY.)
Again, historically, sitting senators have a terrible track record at winning the White House. Last one was JFK and his oppostion was Richard Nixon, whom he defeated by only a whisker.
Richardson is my prediction for winning the Democratic nomination and then the whole enchilada (pun intended.).
I also am already SO tired of the whole thing. I wish we'd pass a 'no campaigning until 6 months out' law here.

Reason: punctuation
Bill Richardson, current guv of New Mexico. Don't be surprised to see his name bandied about for a VP position. He would have a strong draw for the Hispanic vote. His moderate views and international experience would make him a good candidate, but he lacks the rock star status afforded the front runners. Ability to raise a million or two a week also in doubt.
All points are good, but do not discount the power of Obama to absolutely mesmerize an audience. People will not care about his lack of experience. He practiced a whole lot more law than Hillary - he was a civil rights attorney when she was sitting on Sam Walton's board and making $100,000 scores in futures trading....
I admit it, I'm starting to see the stars line up for this guy. We have racial issues - he's got white and black relatives (he famously said he's got relatives that look like Margaret Thatcher and those that look like Bernie Mac). We have Christian/Muslim issues and he has both of them as relatives as well.
Africa is going to be more and more of an issue in US foreign policy, and when he visits there he's treated like a rock star because of his father.
He's like Tiger Woods - he refuses to be pigeon-holed. He represents the blending of america (our forefathers spoke of the Melting Pot). I, for one, believe it could sell, and I'm a righteous Cracker....
Joining Westie's and Huck's replies together is why I think Richardson will be the bland-ish compromise Democratic candidate. The 'rock star' status of Obama and the Darth Vader evil of Hillary will eventually work against them, I believe.

"Chicago Heights"??
Lets look at Illinois, specifially Chicago. One of the most corrupt cities, states in U.S. History. And continues to be so. Dont even hold that state up as a role model for anything other than crooks. They could teach lousyianna a lesson or two. I dont think Canada would even take Illinois.
The ugly thing about 99% of politicians is their "for the people" posturing, while turning their back on the oath "to support and defend the Constitution".
How soon we overlook the fact the Constitution is there to defend the people from runaway government!
