RELATIONS

RELATIONS

Over a period of time I suspect that most people on this site develop a series of relationships with others in terms of their postings, replies and interplay of minds. These relationships can either be respectful, envious, funny, disturbing, antagonistic or just someone that you notice as you cross in the post.

G-CPTN and I seem to have similar “off the wall” mindsets; acbus and I have developed (I hope) a fairly warm relationship with chickens and irony; I respect Tony Draper for his longevity and humorous but insightful views on the world, Beagle, Pontius Navigator, and Gainsey loom large on the Military Forum because of mutual interests and probably careers that might have crossed in the post as it were. Always Broken In Wilts and I seem to have a deep loathing of each other even though my only offence was that I was an officer in the RAF and he isn’t; fortunately, to the best of my knowledge, that is the only character on PPRuNe that I would prefer not to meet in a dark alley one night (although I suspect that we would get on OK in real life). Blue Diamond and Avtrician are two locals who I occasionally pass in the night and Jerricho, whom I have never had any discourse with, I find amusing.

There are, of course, legions of others who come and go and my apologies if I have omitted you - but - who pushes your buttons?

FSL has to be the Guru.
Bluey seems to be able to COMMAND (respect!).
Then there's the girlies (sorry, Bluey, you're included here too) of whom I'll refrain from special mention, in case I offend one or other (you know what girlies can be like ). One or two have exchanged PMs 'Tis best for a gentleman to keep one's experiences with identifiable women to one's self (you know what girlies can be like ).
Enemies? Don't know, but I think Bins took exception to something that I probably never wrote.

I naturally feel an affinity for those spawned or forced to live within the area of Northumbria (that includes Durham in my reckoning).
And then there's the Jockistanis (daughter lives 'up there' - sorry, 'stays' - ! ). One feels no malice towards the Jocks (part of my philosophy to avoid Glasgow kisses). In fact one feels no malice towards anyone, but I enjoy taking the wee out of any group, especially with an appreciative audience.

I'm fairly new to this sport so I haven't had time to form relations with anyone yet, however I do enjoy the generally good humoured banter profered by the likes of Colmac, herr Draper and others too many to mention.

Cheers

ILS

This is a good thread. Could become dodgy, if we're not careful.

I wrote a few days ago about gradually learning about people by an accumulation of small clues, and often seeing certain parallels with other people's lives. Some, when compared to my own, are quite uncanny sometimes. But suddenly, the comparison fails and ‘one' realizes that there are tremendous fundamental differences. This is folk the world over.

Sometimes these differences come as a complete surprise, and cause chaos.

For example, I have a pal that I used to shoot with. He is a good friend, but gradually he turned from shooting targets to shooting creatures , and I can't. Not a one. We can talk for hours, but not about killing things. How can we be friends with such a fundamental difference in our thinking?

Now that I'm in a reflective phase of life, I think it is wise to watch human interactions as a passive observer. But that doesn't last long. I make all the same mistakes, and take risks with causing offence. I can't resist the odd jibe despite having learned--by a thousand lessons, that only some people can be rude and others can't. I'm one of those that can't.

Ppruning is fun, and it's a shame when cyber-friends squabble, even more of a shame when someone gets banned. TnT!!!?, how could that have happened? Human nature again...it has to be let loose sometimes. But it must be heart-warming for her to know that fellow ppruners care.

I like reading about many of the aforementioned ppruners, and feel that I'm getting to know some of them. I often wonder how we would get along in real life.

I would relish the chance of being able to break down Send Clowns stone wall defenses. BDi... now, that would be a challenge.

G-CPTN, I am sure would be very interesting to talk to...at length, ( and we have many parallels) but talking of sport....mmm,

I would love to meet Keef. Old buildings, wiring, flying, and last by not least, theology.

Now the FSL. We have, without doubt, so many parallels. Astronomy, sorting the volts from the amps...but I doubt he would put up with my effervescence--about everything--for more than ten minutes. He has a much more laconic approach to life than I. But I doubt he would find it funny to have someone burst a paper bag behind him just as he was putting a probe into a high-voltage circuit.

Davaar. what a varied and interesting life. 3 tons of books!! beats me by two and a half tons. but he's not perfect...didn't he say that he didn't drink? ( the thread about paying for rounds)

All in all, it's the differences that make life interesting...and of course, starts wars.

The photo thread does help a little to imagine what that person is like, whether they look a grumpy b@stard (sorry VH-Grumpy ) or just how you imagine them when they post...

Respect, hate or find hilarious?

Respect... how can you respect anyone in JB? Dignity don't exist within these virtual walls. And rightly so too, tis a place of contemplation, mild insanity and pure fun. What most can we ask? That said I do truely respect a select few, but I don't like to mention them for fear of immediate and terrible retribution

I don't really hate anyone on JB, or PPRuNe in general, in fact I'm too lazy to hold a grudge (spot the film I nicked that from). I've learned and laughed so much in the past 3 years it's nearly impossible to go without PPRuNeing for more then a few hours. I've made lots of friends, not just in JB but all over the site, and long may that continue. Actually my career path (having barely begun it so far) came about because of PPRuNe, and no it's not airline flying! Flying, yes, but not for ze airlines.

The hilarious ones.

Oh dear.

Just about everyone, but the main guys (if they are indeed guys) are Jerricho, Onarrrrrrrrrrrghh! and Tinny. Not to mention Herr Drapes and last but not least, G-CPTN,

I know, I've missed loads, but it'd take me hours to list you all.

(Bugger, forgot to mention airship & acbus1)

Well, one once thought that Nereus was going to help one buy out the company one works for. And Boss Raptor would help one with the business plan.

One also thought that someday, one might help open and close the locks on a leisurely cruise between pubs on the English canals with a certain T.I.M.. One had also entertained ideas of passing some time with a fellow feline (amongst many others) lover out there in the American wilderness with Nani. One had even dreamed of perhaps someday, being locked into wholi's wine cellar together with flaps40 or flyblue (or even both)...one realises of course, one wouldn't be able to cope!

But, as Simon & Garfunkel once sang: ...time hurries on... and many of those above are rarely amongst us anymore.

These days one is more than content to just exchange what little humour, insight or other banter one has to offer, for a bit of the same from everyone else. One day, the leaves that are green will turn to brown, they'll also wither away and crumble in the winds of Jetblast...

I thought that was illegal in Oz?

Besides, we're all manly men (except the non-men), hugs are meant for puppies and girlies in pink

Okay. If you really are a willowy blonde, warm hug and linger in the clutch. If you are just a chap after all, one of those Old-Buddies-from-'Nam-by-way-of-Hollywood-meet-accidentally-in-the-street-in-LA-but-just-have-to-clasp-each-other-to-manly-bosom-with-slapping-of-shoulers hug.

I have to admit I originally subscribed to PPRuNe when I was going through a bit of a tough patch at work. I was after some advice and I got it from both sides of the coin, so to speak.

It has only been in the last few months that I've become a regular user. I can only say I wish I had started earlier.

I admit to not knowing any of you particularly well. Although I'm beginning to get an idea about regular JBers! I think PPRuNe, particularly JB, works well because there are so many people on here all from different walks of life. So many different personalities and views you'd be hard pressed not to find an opinion or point of view about anything. Be it funny or serious! If you want to have a laugh, let off steam or generally be a bit of an arse then this is the place to come.

I only have one question. What the **** does FSL mean?

With reference to Loose Rivets http://www.pprune.org/forums/showpos...40&postcount=9
I also subscribe to an e-mail 'list' of loosely-aviation participants. Over the months, the non-aviation interests and activities have seemed spookily similar (with respect to cars owned, people known and even locations worked). Several have 'not QUITE' met before (before they joined the e-list) but paths HAVE crossed. Of course it's (predominantly) a UK-based group, with just a few ex-pats to keep the banter going 'around the clock'.
We HAVE had face-to-face meetings at aviation events (with social activity afterwards down the pub) though it's a MUCH smaller collection than PPRuNe could muster. Usual attendance is 6 to 8 (though not always the same ones) out of maybe 100-200.
