Even their cars are lazy!

Hmmm, even the French police cars are lazy... http://www.cnn.com/2006/AUTOS/funonw...eut/index.html

It seems they needed to find something which will work quickly and dependably -- which is obviously not something anyone can count on coming out of France!

Another French basher on PPRune?

Hope it may help you feel better Geko!
(but..............if you have got problems at home or with your boss, would be more clever to solve them. On the long term too, French bashing will be of no help with that pain in your stomach, but if your girl friend has left and you have got plenty of free time at night, I think it's safer than drinking to forget......or maybe you could try and find another one?)

Oh, I don't know. Those Exocets worked quite well out in the South Atlantic back in the '80s...?!

On the contrary, it would appear that those responsible for buying high-speed police cars in France have done the necessary research. I seem to recall that the Oz police bought a whole load of souped-up Volvos a while back, only to find them coughing in the dust clouds left behind by these Subarus...?!

Anyway, are Brits really the ones to raise this issue?! I think there were a few Jaguars on UK motorways a long time ago but they're all Fords now?! It'd be hard for the current UK government to justify PC Plod rolling around in Aston-Martins (a high-performance Ford with Escort door-handles?), though the Germans used to have a few Porsche Carreras to police their autobahns in the past. I suppose a TVR would be fast enough, but a bit hard to see through the bonnet lid usually...or so I'm told?!

In Oz some traffic police are using the the WRX in urban areas,
hard to beat in the tight twisty stuff, but out on the open road
they still use Ozi V8's - up to 300kw in a family size car.

Why would you need 300 one-bar electric fires? Isn 't Oz warm enough?

cos the car manufactures sell them - its a cult thing,
and boys (and some girls) must have their toys.

Max speed limit 110kph except in the NT - it means you
get there a nanosecond quicker at twice the price.

I spend alot of time in France and it certainly does have its faults but then so do all countries. At least everything works there in terms of roads railways hospitals schools freash food supermarkets etc etc unlike certain other large countries in the EU.

In the UK we take the EU too seriously and seem to have forgotten that it was Nelson not Napolean who turned a blind eye to orders he didnt like.
I cannot belive that after what happend for most of the last century any sane person would advocate the return of European nationalism but then again as a Euro not french friend explained to me-its alright for you brits to forget the lessons of history -sure you played a big part but it was an away fixture for you-we were the playing field.

As for the language I think many people in France speak excellent English now and are very happy to use it so long as they are not just taken for granted by visitors from across the channel many of whom can barely speak their own language.

Anti French feeling is especially bizarre on a professional aviation forum, there can be no area of life since WW1 where Anglo French co-operation is more evident or has been more successful than aviation.

As another poster said- long live the Entente Cordiale but vive les differences
