Arrow Shorts flying boats still flying?

Are there any Shorts S.26 or Sunderland flying boats still flying anywhere in the world?

There was one in Miami and there still might be one on fire fighting duty in Canada. You might check on the Canada forum.

The Sunderland MK5 at Kermit Weeks Fantasy of Flight is still airworthy as far as I know.

It stopped off at Lough Derg in Ireland on the way to Florida in 93.
At least I got to see a Sunderland in flight and landing.

No Sunderlands still flying in Canada, although the last two Martin Mars in the world still earn their keep here.

Re: Shorts flying boats still flying?

I remember reading about that last on its way to Kermit Weeks, they were having trouble raising anyone on HF about mid Atlantic, so an high overflyer offered to relay a position report for them.

This was duly passed to the overflyer who said he got it all except the altitude, "please say your altitude again".

The Sunderland said " 500 ft, I say again 500ft".

There was a stunned silence for a few few seconds then the high overflyer said
"Caught any fish ?".
