I'll be in Lingfield on Sunday, weather permitting, dropping some passengers off at the racecourse then hanging around until they want to go back to Newbury.

I'll have four to six hours to kill - anyone got any sensible ideas ? Even if you could offer a seat on a sofa with a Sunday newspaper

You could always watch the horses......

Seriously, have you phoned them for a briefing? I thoroughly recommend that you do so. They are paranoid about helis being anywhere near the racecourse when horses are on the track, (much more so than other courses I've been to) and it is difficult to see them coming out of the paddock, depending on your direction of approach, due to the surrounds. Make sure you know the race times that will affect you. They also don't even allow engines to be started with horses on the track once you're in, so again be careful on departure. Best if you park so you can see the finish and paddock.

It doesn't help when you have the Gatwick controller saying "Land in the next 30 seconds" (it is right under the approach path). Be very careful and have a very good look before you commit to a landing. We still got it wrong, despite two pairs of eyes looking out just for this potential problem.

Oh, by the way, they don't fly a flag to indicate horses on the track, unlike Newbury.

Thney're not racing on Sunday, I've spoken to the racecourse contact, and it's all ok with them and the client.
