Question Advice needed for wannabe pilot

Hi everyone,

I'm a 39 yo paramedic who has decided on a career change. I have applied for one Australian pilot cadet program unsuccessfully and am thinking about taking the plunge and trying to get into a flight school.
The short term plan being to do a year full time training (and borrowing with a VET Student Loan) on CPL-A and MICER then attempting to get a job somewhere to get hours up while doing a physics bridging course before long term plan flying for one of the big airlines.
I have only had a couple of flights and lessons but know that this is what I want to do.

Can anyone give me their thoughts on the sustainability of these plans?
Any advice?
Chances of employment as an inexperienced, freshly schooled 40 yo bloke with a CPL?
Anybody's own experiences would also be much appreciated...

Thank you
