I think cover letter and Cvs mean very little. Nepotism, deals with Oxford / CTC, very highly placed contacts, and copious amounts of luck are what you need. Tell me I'm wrong. I'm sure WWW would agree with me.
..but you are supposed to be an intelligent and (hopefully) reasonably articulate young professional.. most likely craving the right-hand seat in a 50-tonne aircraft hauling 200 pax... and you need help writing a letter? This is a sad indictment but good luck all the same.
What a ridiculous statement, of course CV's and cover letters matter! What is the first thing a recruiter is going to look at when you make an application?!
Until you get in front of the interview panel your CV IS you.
Fancy CVs and cover letters only help by making you feel good that you've approached the whole thing in a professional way (like mum & dad, and the career coach at school taught you). In reality, as this is your first commercial pilot job you are competing with thousands of others, 25-33% who will have much more experience. Even the cutest CV wont help your cause. Harsh reality, but the sooner you realise it the quicker you will discover that there are at least 2 more (very expensive) choices you have to make before you are likely to get employed.

This request is not about my level of intelligence. I thought this forum is about people helping people out. I am sure at times you have requested a dig out and have got all the answers that you require. I am looking for any tips that some decent folk have not smart answers from the likes of you. So if you are going to leave a comment, please leave something worth reading and helpful.

KM 737, I don't know talkpedlar but, I think he's scope was not to be unpolite but just to let you know that's maybe is not worth to pay even for a CV and it is supposed that you have got all your licence, so its not a big deal to build a good CV. Anyway, Your Cv should be just 1 page A4 size and after the heading, something like your objective, your personal qualification, pilot credentials, career history, education and finally your interest. Otherwise, you can navigate through many aviation site and find something fit to you. Hope this help.
To V1rotate1 and to all the other guys : Airline Companies after the MCC and some other Bull rating and certificate like JOC,ELP(english proficency) TR, BS, and LT...they will let us even have a standard CV supervised from some of the agencies and pay something even for this thanks YOU ALL!!!! STOP PAYING FOR EVERY AVIATION CERTIFICATE|
I have all my credentials and have put together a good CV. I just was looking for some pointers on a cover letter, not want the cover letter to out do the CV. Simple pointers.
I did some research on the net looking for pointers and i just wanted to get a general consensus of what guys had put in their cover letter.

simple cover letter , Let them know why and for what are sending them your CV, put yuor qualification highlisted,make sure you also enhance your skills, strenght and your interest. That's all. Try to summarize your Cv without enter in depth but even stay too far...!
You may want to check out this link: Pilot Document Library on the International Pilot Network website. Choose 'Pilot Interview' and then look for a file called 'Pilot Resume Cover Letter'. Layout, structure and information contained in this particular one was successful at Thomson, Cathay, Dragonair, and more...Good luck.
