What previous jobs have people had?
I'm hoping to start flight training soon, I have a job at Heathrow as a ramp agent and am trying to save up as much as I can.
has anyone else worked on the ramp or similar? how long did it take you to get CPL+IR?

I know one guy who used to work on the ramp, he's now a 737-800 Captain.
I worked as a night ops assistant, now fly bizjets.
How long did it take to get the CPL+IR isn't quite relevant as I converted an Australian ATPL to a JAA one.
Don't expect to get a flying job directly because you've worked on the ramp but contacts are every thing. (Also, good flying passes etc when you're low houred)

Waited on tables, worked on the ramp (loading), cleaned hangar floors and aircraft. Took about 5 years to get the first licence, working by day and courses/studying at night. It IS possible to do it without having access to the big money. Best of luck to you, just keep going, no matter what.

Worked as a dispatcher for 4 years and did many odd jobs in supermarket, Petrol stations, quarry and offices , now 757 Captain and also run my own business. If you have the determination then you will get there.
Burger King 1991-1992
Tesco 1992 - 1998
Endsleigh Insurance 1996-1997 Held two jobs during this time, worked 7 days a week
ICS (aircraft cleaning company) 1998
Now flying A320's LHS for UK airline.
The first two jobs I held were whilst studying, flipping burgers and stacking shelves. I got onto a graduate training scheme in 1996 at Endsleigh Insurance (to help finance my ATPL) and continued to work at the weekends at Tesco. The last at ICS was to fill in the gap between finishing my ATPL training and waiting for my start date with my first Airline position, Debonair on the 146. So within a week went from cleaning the cabin's of a BAe 146 to learning how to fly it!
Happy happy days indeed!
