Has anyone heard anything back from etihad (other than the initial automated message)? i know that one person on this forum has, but anbody else?. The waiting game is killing me.

I think there's a few emirati nationals on this thread who have applied thought the national cadet scheme. The world-wide cadet scheme is independent of the national scheme.
Emirates DO offer traditional sponsorship, BUT it is only open to UAE nationals. Training is done in Australia.
Eh I think this question has been raised already but not answered...but would be slightly concerned on how easy it is to convert from GCAA to CAA/JAA? No doubt etihad great firm to work for but what if you wished to return to Europe eventually??? Is it possible or will it cost you an arm and a leg?
A JAA licence is closely recognised in the middle east as a lot of the countries in this region are trying to standardise their licence process to closely follow the JAA standards due to its quality.
So to convert from a GCAA to JAA wouldn't be all that painful and can be carried out at a reasonable and affordable cost as opposed to converting from an FAA licence.
the heat is nauseating! Piper had to add several pages to our perfomance charts because the temperature we faced were off the scale! dust storms and temperature inversions with strong winds seem to be the norm!
UAE's attitude towards general aviation is also really poor. All the airports including Al-Ain are international airports and priority goes to IFR traffic with controllers often known for bullying light aircraft!
More than that Horizon seems to be a relatively new school for fixed wing aircraft, lack of instructors and examiners are again quite common when training in the Emirates
I just hope this training program is efficient enough to combat bureacracy wthin the civil aviation authority and fkying school politics to make sure that 18 months is a realistic target to train pilots from zero to hero!
The current EY cadets are in line to finish on time, after 18 months. Yes there are weather issues, however I doubt if you do it at Oxford or CTC, their weather is perfect, for very different reasons.
Initial selections, to choose who comes to which selection event are now taking place, news will follow very soon.

Also, you mentioned in your previous post that selection for the global scheme will be divided in 4 places around the globe. Do you happen to know them?
I did call Etihad last month and the only information they would give out is that shortlisting will begin in May. When I asked for more information they said we can only tell you what is on the website.
So again, quite confused on how the shortlisting is done (with the little requirements) and the huge pool of applicants. But I guess like everyone here, will have to wait and see how events unfold.
i dont know even know if we all gona get into etihad cadet scheme, i know people who have contacts are gna get in before us in abu dhabi, in aviation its always like this its not about your application, its all about who you know and this just piss me off, coz i am have lot of money on training and i know i am good , and people who have contacts get in before everyone even though they fail there intial test, i dont want to say name but i did my training in melbourne, and there was student from saudi got in as second officer with only 250 tt in emirates flying 777, i mean what the hell and that person failed ppl twice and cpl once, i also applied for etihad cadet scheme coz i have no other choice, i cant afford to pay any more flying school to get more hours, i have been waiting and waiting for my application to show some freakin status and its same no message. i dnt know whats gna happen to aviation industry anymore.
we're all in the same boat. it's just they have their advantage coz they know someone inside, but hey, don't generalize the aviation industry.
and you cannot deny the fact these things really exist (the whom you know, not what you know scheme)
we need experience to hone our skills they may be unskilled when they got in but through exp. they become skilled pilots.
I wouldn't ask you from where you get this information because the way you present it, it seems from reliable sources. What I would like to ask is that:
When the shortlisting for november course will happen? and While uploading CV I mentioned that soon I'll upload my current medicals, but now it's one and half month and I couldn't get my medicals because there is no aviation medical examiner in Afghanistan, so do you think that this can ruin my case?
Do u guys mean that without a medical the application wouldnt be considered?
and does anybody know if a uni education would be any benifit in the application process?

I have well read that. But, remeber that from reading a topic different poeple will have different perceptions. In my case, I have mentioned that while uploading CV I had promised to soon upload my current medicals, and while I couldn't do that for one and half month, I thought they will pretend that I'm not medically fit, and I'm sure every one gets curious about every odds and ends in these kinds of situations.
for eligiblity EY has stated on their website: Eligibility
• Age between 18 and 26 years
• Medically fit to fly
• Accredited secondary school diploma or higher with proven pass grades in Physics, Mathematics and English
Thus, they can be considered initial factors of shortlisting. So if you don't upload your medical, how will they know if you are medically fit (and what if there is nothing to show if you have ever passed any class of medical) I'm not saying that it is a requirement it's just my perception. And don't you think if along other things if you upload your class 1 medical, can at least support your shortlisting?
