UPS orders up to 28 Boeing 747-8 freighters

"United Parcel Service (UPS) has ordered 14 Boeing 747-8 freighters and placed options on 14 more of the type.
The aircraft will be used to support the cargo carrier’s fleet expansion plans.
UPS Airlines president Brendan Canavan said the aircraft “are a strategic investment for increased capacity for UPS customers around the globe. The 747-8 will allow UPS to upsize our network in both new and existing markets.”
The order is significant for Boeing because the 747-8 has been a slow sale, with the OEM earlier this year announcing it would reduce production rate to 0.5 aircraft per month—or just six per year— from September 2016, citing softness in the global air cargo market.
Until September, the 747-8 was produced at the rate of 1.3 aircraft per month and the rate was previously slated to drop to one per month in March. The 747-8F has been more successful than the passenger 747-8i variant, but a sluggish-to-stagnant global cargo market has slowed demand.
Boeing Commercial Airplanes took an $885 million pre-tax charge tied to the 747-8 rate slowdown.
Other customers for the 747-8F include AirBridgeCargo, Atlas Air, Cathay Pacific Airways, Cargolux, Korean Air, Nippon Cargo Airlines, Silk Air and Volga Dnepr. Before the UPS deal, Boeing had logged a total of 74 orders for the 747-8F, according to the Boeing orders and deliveries web page.
Airline customers for the 747-8 passenger aircraft include Air China, Arik Air, Korean Air, Lufthansa Group and Transaero and total 42; Boeing has also sold eight -8s as business jets."

Jack11111, the BBJ makes up ~20% of the total orders for the 747-8 Intercontinental (i.e. passenger version).
While the percentage numbers were no where near that high, there are quite a few "business jet" variations of the older 747s out there. Some were new build BBJs, including a couple very ornate 747s that went to middle east sheiks (things like gold plated bathroom fixtures, on-board operating rooms, and devices that always pointed towards Mecca). Many others were converted from airline service to business jets - there is a casino in Las Vegas that keeps a couple of executive 747SPs on hand to fly around the high rollers (I've seen them parked there when I've flown into Las Vegas). And of course there are the two Air Force One 747s.
