Freight Dogs Finally a forum for those midnight prowler types who utilise the unglamorous parts of airports that many of us never get to see. Freight Dogs is for pilots and crew who operate mostly without SLF.

Polar/Atlas quits Prestwick Hangar

Heard a rumor that Polar and Atlas will stop using the Prestwick hangar
for their maintenance. Can anyone verify or have information about this?

If correct its been on the cards for some time.

Won't miss the place

It's true, no more PIK runs for us, just the transit trips for Panalpina every few days. We will no longer use the PIK maintenance facility either, announced last week by the CEO.

There are many things that have contributed to the shutdown. The PIK maintainance came from the Polar purchase. AAWW then decided to use PIK for tech stops for the military and other customers.
Then they discovered Hahn (HHN). Cheaper landing fees, nice facilities, better weather, cheaper/better hotels, and close to RMS, so less cost to limo between the two, vs flights in and out of PIK to get to RMS.

Thumbs up

With all due respect to those in PIK, but St. Micheal's hotel in Morbach rocks! Great freight dog hangout.

Any rumors on who might move into the PIK Hangar? Hate to
see that nice facility go to waste.
