Freight Dogs Finally a forum for those midnight prowler types who utilise the unglamorous parts of airports that many of us never get to see. Freight Dogs is for pilots and crew who operate mostly without SLF.

Hi there, as far as I'm concerned, there is no upgrade possibilities for "expats". Only BA guys will get it there. Actually there is no career opportunity for outsiders.

this is what I gathered from the rumor mills the other day. I'm not working there.

Cheers

Don

I'm not sure what you mean by "expats" ( http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/expatriate ). If you mean foreign pilots then there are five non-British Captains in GSS and all have been promoted since the BA secondement process started. All five live in their own countries and commute to Stansted so are not strictly "expats".

Possibly. This is only from what I've heard. It used to be that there was no upgrade possibilities unless you were seconded by BA.
With the term expats I meant non BA guys.

It could have changed, thats why I said I'm not sure.

Cheers

So, how do you guys like working for GSS, I mean, do you have nice guys sitting beside you, is it a good atmosphere?

I've been with GSS for a while now and out of 100 or so pilots I there are only two names that I dont look forward to seeing on my roster.

Reasonable route structure (for 3 aircraft) and good hotels. Too much time away from home sat in hotels doing nothing, 5 days in Shanghai, 4 days in Chennai etc.

Pay talks for this years deal start tomorrow (15th). It will be interesting to hear how little money the company say is in the pot.

Thanks for that answer...so you fly to shanghai, sit there for 5 days and fly back? Is it true that normal trips are 7 to 8 days long in total, like GSS posts on there webside?

Best regards

Initial offer from the company, 5% increase in basic salary from June 1st with (I think) 2% extra on pension {taking it to 10% from the company if you put in 10%}. But that is a two year deal with no increase next year.....

OR

2% increase this year with 1% on the pension.

There was a meeting between GSS, BALPA and ACAS on Friday (16th) so I suspect that the full formal procedure for union recognition will start within the next few weeks.

what would be the selection process like, at GSSair, for F/Os?

also, do they exsist because of BA only,or do they operate cargo flights on behalf of other airlines/freight forwarders?
