What could've been!!

Anyone done a calculation of how much a SO/FO/CAPT has lost so far by not taking the previously voted down TA?

Would appreciate an estimate

How on earth do you people fly airplanes safely and prudently with this type of myopic instant gratification outlook......

- tanks 2/3 of req'd : check
- lots of Li batteries : check
- tyre pressures low : check
- no flight plan : check
- ****ty wx forecast : check
- Illy coffee on board : check

A bit of extra pay and a promises of a happy ending : let's turn and burn Mav !

Incredible !

Calculation

Here's a better one to figure out..
If CX came out today and said Pilots mes amies, because we understand you work hard were going to be ultra kind and without even asking we're going to give you an across the board pay rise of 10%.. Aren't we thoughtful and appreciative ??

Now go back 15 years, take into account all from CX thats been lost or reduced (e.g. staff non-travel, housing, medical costs/coverage, schooling assistance, non-foc's etc.etc.) and last but not least - the pathetic pension

Then take into account; rent/house cost increases, general cost of living in HK over the last 15 years, cost of living increases at the home bases of those who are are non local but some day need to retire move home and purchase a home..

The person who calculates this will give you the real picture and one that will most likely want to make you vomit...

They want "qualified" flight crew but they want to pay Uber driver rates.. Read it and weep..

Cowardly Pilot: he knows the cost of everything, but the value of nothing. It's time to intensify our resistance to this incompetent and arrogant management. Make it clear that ALL the problems we are suffering from result from their inability to make a decision that isn't catastrophic for the airline and its employees. Fuel hedging, currency hedging and cargo fines. THAT is why the airline suffers. If it wasn't for those items, we'd be comfortably profitable. Let them take the hit, not the employees. Disgusting on every level.

Trafalgar, you are indeed a prize asset to your company .
Thats ASS et . You are bitter : theres no more Ansett , were grateful to go to hk , get your promotion, get your training rank and therefore now hold the title of irrepressibly arrogant. You are smug that you dont need to work and are self righteous to those starting their career. Those that you train. God help CX . You sir need to Foxtrot Oscar asap.

Btw: no vacancies left for arrogant colonial wannabes, that boat sailed in 2000. LOL.

A bit of a tangent here...what happened to those 40?-odd CX pilots that Terry Tyler? necked about that time...or maybe a year or so after. The guys who the union started paying their previous salaries. I dropped out of the HK space and lost track of what eventually happened to those pilots. Just curious how all that panned out.

25,000HKD for me.

- And I'd be 'trialing' 3-pilots ops to Europe forever.
- And my housing allowance would be gone in 2020 after the AoA majority votes for an increase of their own "allowance''.
- And I'd be sued by the company for complaining about it.

Damn it, why didn't we sign for it?

I would have lost money. With Clause 7 effectively making the HKAOA an impotent, toothless video club, the Company would have been free to do what they like, safe in the knowledge there could be no union pushback.

There is no way the company would have honoured the 2.5% payrise in May. Let's get real, they couldn't have made 600 people redundant and then given the pilots a payrise at the same time. Clause 7 wasn't linked to them honouring their side of the bargain. Zapp's right, they could choose to not honour their side of the bargain, but each one of was still liable to be sued if we complained when they breached.

It was an unfair and lopsided deal and got what it deserved.

Exactly Liam. A point lost on a few of our colleagues who I'm ashamed to say shouldn't be anywhere near the controls of aircraft.

Not blaming the 'spikey hairs'. It's not really their fault. Probably would have done the same back in the day if there was a similar option. What I do blame however (blame?, no, condemn), is the unaccountable bean counters who have eroded the airline. We have bright shiny pilots who can fly as per the book, but who lack the experience that used to be considered essential to even be interviewed, never mind employed. The brain trust of hundreds of combined years of experience, both civil and military, is being eroded. Combine that with demoralised pilots (and their families), chronic fatigue and poor health and retirement benefits and the eventual consequences of that aren't too difficult to predict.
