Lufthansa pilots to go on strike on Wednesday

Pilots at German national airline Lufthansa said they would go on strike on Wednesday, affecting the airline's short and medium-haul flights.

The strike action was called by the pilot's union Vereinigung Cockpit in an ongoing dispute with the airline over its early retirement benefits.

Workers are also in a dispute over Lufthansa's plan to expand its low-cost operations.

The move is the latest in a series of strikes that have plagued the airline.

The walkout would last 24 hours, affecting flights throughout Germany. But flights at the carrier's budget units Germanwings and Eurowings would not be affected, the union said.

Pilots have held a series of strikes from last year over Lufthansa's plans to change their pension arrangements.

The airline wants to get rid of a programme that allows pilots to retire at age 55 and receive up to 60% of their pay until they reach the statutory retirement age of 65.

The union also said that the airline wants to offer younger pilots less attractive working conditions, forcing it to strike.

Strikes cost Lufthansa 232m euros (£165m) last year.

There are quite a few instances of aircraft being stuck on the ground with CC unable to find enough people to intimidate into working. With the other CC (the compliance one) gaining some momentum we just have to sit tight and watch the impending disarray as the bullies try to rule the playground. It worked before but I suspect we have now reached M crit and it won't happen again.
Nice if someone with some brains took control and suggested "what if we tried to show some respect for our pilot workforce?" "After all, we are a f**king AIRLINE!!!
The pilots should mean everything but somehow......

The first half of March resulted in me not flying a single rostered flight...it makes a mockery of getting a roster in the first place!!!

And how effective do you think cc will be when your COS gets re-written?

Mr Dent,

You may have joined an airline many moons ago, but now, however, you work for a brand and FOP is just a small insignificant dept.

RETI=Reduced expenditure to idiots.

FUB-
FOP is the fundamental baseline of an "Airline Operation". Get all your pilots "on side" and you have a brilliant solution. Get them "offside" by employing idiotic, sycophantic, and cowardly "Managers" and you see what you have today.
Nobody "up in the 3rd Floor" has any BALLS.

Respect

I am now out of the flying business. I just want to say that LH is a Pilot group that I certainly respect!
