CX expansion Aspire Aviation

Manchester base anyone?

In addition, Aspire Aviation can exclusively reveal that Cathay is eyeing a launch of a daily 777-300ER flight to Zurich in December 2014, as well as a 4 times weekly 777-300ER service to Manchester, United Kingdom in January 2015. Boston is also on its radar and is very likely to be launched in early 2015, Aspire Aviation‘s sources at Cathay Pacific said. This helps shed lights on the deployment plan of 9 777-300ERs and 6 more that it will be taking deliveries of in 2014 and 2015, when it will also withdraw 6 747-400s this year.

should be A350

according to the 3rd floor, Manchester will be the launch dest for the A350, while the 777 will start Zurich this year and will be taken over by A350 when they arrive... Boston will also be served by the A350....

Obviously a bit of a worldwide search going on at the moment:

Cathay explores Asian links
Last updated 05:00 21/03/2014

A Hong Kong-based airline has acknowledged it is a target of Christchurch Airport's plans to boost passenger numbers from Asia and beyond.

Brian Tsoi, Cathay Pacific country manager for New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, yesterday said the airport had made approaches for the Hong Kong-based airline to launch a service.

Christchurch airport has said it is in talks with China Southern and "other" airlines, but does not usually name the airlines it is in negotiations with.

Tsoi noted that Cathay Pacific had a daily Hong Kong service to Auckland, that was moved to a "double daily" service during the peak summer December-February period, with flights operated by A340-300 aircraft.

Tsoi said: "Cathay as you know flies daily flights into Auckland . . . and we're delighted to expand our opportunities, and I think one of the reasons I'm actually here is because Christchurch Airport wants Cathay Pacific to fly direct services to Christchurch."

The airline was open to new services, "but at this stage I can't say when or if", he said.

Christ, steady on Cx.

Rumours of 4 new routes. Wow, finally got some balls and a dose of common sense.

I thought you would play safe and have 10 more flights a day to London and 4 more daily services to LAX and JFK.

Manchester and Zurich are hardly new, just regurgitated.
The big question for pilots will be the old hoary chestnut of what to do with the freighter guys when all the freight is being taken in pax underbellies. Hopefully they carry enough CAO only stuff to warrant keeping a dedicated freighter service.

No probs there Loopy, sounds like potential type change on the base. Under European law all those nice Freighter chaps will be quite happy to do an A350 course.

Sorry CX but you are 10 years too late. Your umming and ahhing has allowed the likes of EK to fly to almost every airport in the UK that has a runway longer than 9000Ft.

And its safe to say those passengers will never comeback with the current service (lack of) you provide to both your Cattle Class and Premium Class customers.

A350 courses for freighter CNs in MAN and SYD???

Absolutely, as FOs of course!!! I don't think any of them have seniority to hold pax commands on a base.

If CX offered pax command slots in MAN they would need to be made available to everyone with the appropriate seniority in the entire company FIRST - right place, right time won't work in this situation...and certainly not for freighter captains...no matter what seat is on offer...for FO's based in MAN a 350 conversion would a relief of course...

It is really encouraging to see you guys already arguing about a base that doesn't exist, on a route which hasn't been announced, with an aircraft that hasn't been build.
