What's going on?

Anyone know why the flights from
LAX(CX885),
YYZ(CX825/7) and
YVR(CX839)
as well as a few other regional flights were all cancelled today? Nothing on the news or on IntraCX as far as I can tell.

Either missing aircrew or missing demand. You'll never hear them admit to the former because it would show their incompetence. The latter is easy to blame since no one really controls demand. So I'm guessing they'll go with B.

If you got your information off FIDS (or whatever HKIA info service is called), I suspect these cancelled flights are perhaps not what they seem. I suspect they are flights that used be daily, but now we operate on a non-daily service, so the system records the "non-days" as cancellations.

If however, you got your information from somewhere else, disregard my last.

Got the info off the arrival info board at the airport and also on the HK Flight Info app. The flights were definitely cancelled.

Wisely use that 2 hour period in Hong Kong when bugger all bars are open by checking the crew lists for any long haul flights you can think of.

You'll soon see why flights are being cancelled.

You say the flights were definitely cancelled. Do you say that because on the airport displays it had the word " Cancelled" next to these Flight numbers, or because you know people booked on the flight or scheduled to operate these flights and they were told the flights were cancelled.

The reason I ask is, Toronto is CX829 and Vancouver is CX889 and 837. I suspect the flight numbers you quoted 839/825/7 are flights we used to run, but recently dropped from the schedule. CX885 is not a daily service.

By any chance did you notice this on a Sat, Mon, Weds or Thurs?

yep, CX839 was renumbered to 837. Don't know why the Airport displays can't cope with that.

I was going to say "inflexibility" and then I remembered we were talking about an Airport Authority. Airport Authorities ooze flexibility and any Authority in Hong Kong is doubly flexible and customer orientated.

Joking aside, all those red cancelled warnings next to CX callsigns is not a good look. I am sure the management trolls scanning these pages will swing in action on Monday morning and remedy this situation.. In the meantime, I'm off to take my meds.
