CX to use Navtech eCharts.

Navtech sell iCharts which provides charting on the iPad, but if CXWorld is to be believed we will use eCharts.

The most popular tablet by far is the iPad. Reliable OS, long battery life and great screen. All other announcements of EFBs by other carriers have been all about iPads.

As usual CX knows best and will go with a non-iPad tablet. If it is 10 times better than PSS it will still be a piece of shit. But it will be cheap.

cheap being the operative word. only reason we are even getting an EFB is because ISD. So they can get real time CC authorisation. anything this company does is crap and this will be no different

* anyone with a simple internet connection can get realtime CC authorisations.
* onboard broadband internet is being rolled out on many other carriers
* ipad EFB technology is cheap due to readily available cheap hardware and - if required - upgradable by simply throwing it away and replacing it with the next version of the 299 US$ iPad

would be a no-brainer, one would think. but not over here

Agreed on the ease, cheapness and reliability of iPad. I can just see some half-arsed system being introduced by CX that will never work properly, in the meantime it will be claimed a 'success' and the manager responsible will have taken his cost-saving bonus and 'moved on'.

Devil's advocate mode: new aircraft, e.g. the A350, will require some sort of interface between the EFB and the aircraft's navigation systems (FMC). Does anyone know if that can be achievable with an iPad?

It might be an opportunity for someone to develop an app.

With the success of iTravel, IntraCX, Learners World, and all the other massive tech failures, I really do hope they spring and outsource to a reputable company with solid tech know-how. Unfortunately, it will probably be some cheap-ass never heard of Chinese knock-off "iPud" that looks just like an "iPad"
