Ab initio cadet program only for HKG residents again!!

AOA update today mentions immigration finally got their act together and said no more Ab initio cadets that are not residents. Great news. Like in any country immigrant workers should bring skills and not just the ability to warm a seat in order to get a work permit.

New rumor

Is there any truth to the rumor Emirates has been attracting Adelaide cadets?

What do you exactly mean by attracting? They already have signed the bond so..

It's a forgivable loan. Training bonds are illegal in HKG.

Several S/O's have indeed left after short stints (not sure about Cadets). Other than the rough ride and implied threats from FOPs, there isn't anything CX can do to make them stay as long as they buck up the original handout.

It's my understanding that the iCadets have to apply for the remainder of their "forgivable loan" once they arrive in HK
It's not paid to them automatically

The ADL training cost is already/notionally deducted

As such, iCadets can walk at anytime if another airline eg: EK is happy to recognise their P2X type rating!

After all it's more a memorandum of understanding than a legal contract

...and I heard that Emirates wrote CX a cheque to cover the pilots they poached.

Interesting times!

Emirates huh?

Does Emirates take them as FOs? Type rate them? If so, why would any of these young guys stay at CX?

Do your stint in the desert (most of us have in some form) and get some real experience. Being the sandwich officer for 4 years gets you a CX JFO course and still no housing. It's a no brainer unless you have a special connection to Hong Kong.

I didn't think cadets had this :

- A minimum of 4000 hours total flying time (may include 25% P3 or FEO time to a max of 500 hr).
- A minimum of 2000 hours multi-crew, multi-engine jet aircraft (P3 time cannot be used for this requirement).
OR
- A minimum of 2500 hours total flying time on a modern commercial multi-engine, multi-crew aircraft jet (P3 time cannot be used for this requirement).

Thus the old scheme was always better.

With local can fulfill their dreams and receive the same old low wages, and expat with experience get the housing.

We can't help at all when the CoS being changed and changed

For the record, EK has not taken any CX cadets. A new joiner FO at EK requires the experience listed above. To be an EK cadet you need to be a UAE National.

Sorry about that.
