Kindle or e-Reader formats

Look, I know there are more important threads at the moment (CX fleet reduction springs to mind), but I was wondering if anyone here knows what the future format of our on-line manuals is going to be?

My gf wants to surprise me with an e-Reader for my birthday, so I thought I would try and make the present useful.

The current format (PDF, obviously) apparently works well with most e-readers I believe, but if I can get ready for the future, then that would be great too.

Advice gratefully accepted...

jed, be wary of the "book-store supported" e-readers (e.g. kindle & nook) as they are heavy on the DRM and their range of compatible formats tends to be limited.

Suggest Sony Reader Daily which whilst expensive is more "open" with formats. Alternatively, if you can wait, there's a raft of new 3rd gen e-readers arriving in the next 3 months. Google "Plastic Logic Que" for an idea of the state of the art!

I love the way the Que allows you to highlight/underline and make notes on documents. I think this is essential if you want your manuals to be usable in electronic format....

I am not an expert but I think the pdf manuals Cx lets you download is 'locked' so you cant change the content - ie not even highlighting or making notes??

Any thoughts?

Any restrictions in pdf- documents can be removed in a short time. Google.

The nice user experience on the iPad makes life in the old fashioned organization a little easier - maybe.

Wait another month, and get an iPad... it'll blow them all away.

I think Stile has one out that pretty much does everything.
