An opportunity for the AOA, members and non-members

I would like to make a simple suggestion to break the impasse between members of the AOA, non-members of the AOA, and the AOA itself: free full membership for 15 months for all new members (existing pilots and new joiners.)

To those who are members of the AOA, you continue to pay your monthly contributions. That doesn’t change your financial Status Quo and it represents your side of the compromise.

To those who are non-members, and believe the AOA cannot change itself or address the issues facing the pilot community, your compromise is your willingness to be proved wrong by joining the AOA, at no cost to yourself.

15 months down the line, if the AOA fails to deliver on its promises, with a considerable membership behind it, you resign (and so will I), again at no (financial) cost. If the AOA delivers, so do you.

To the AOA, I do not believe you can win over the doubters, at present. So
you must be prepared to incur a reasonable administrative cost to process and support free memberships in return for a no-brainer increase in membership well above of 55%.

With this increase in membership, you'll have 15 months to deliver. That is your side of the bargain and your avowed committment.

Is this proposal fair to all? Of course not, but that’s why it is a compromise.

Good luck.

You may remember that this was "sort of" offered a few months ago.... maybe it needs to be re-looked at and extended to a 6 month window of opportunity?

Quote:
Free Trial Membership

Join between now and the end of May, and receive FREE trial membership of the HKAOA until the end of June.

Applicants will be given immediate access to the following trial membership benefits:

· access to HKAOA newsletters and updates
· access to the HKAOA website and chat forums
· access to HKAOA correspondence
· full access to the General Committee and office staff for advice and guidance

The following benefits are not included in the trial membership; however, they are available to all Full Members:

· voting rights in elections and ballots
· insurance benefits

Applications will be processed for full membership upon receipt and approved applicants will be reclassified as Full Members on 01 July 2008. A joining fee of HK$250 will be deducted via direct debit on 28 June 2008.

During the trial period, you have the right to cancel your application at any time, at no cost to you whatsoever. You can also apply to convert the trial membership to full paid membership at any time from 28 days after your initial application, should you wish to take advantage of the full benefits of membership.

How do I join?
Send an email with “Trial Membership” in the subject line to [email address], including your name and contact details, fill in one of the forms in the crew room, or log on to HKAOA and hit the 'Join' tab. We’ll do the rest.

Smile An Opportunity ... for a free ride?

I'm sorry, but this is a bit much! Its like asking to join a lottery and "try it for a while" and see if you can learn to pick the winning numbers!Joining a union (/association) is about trying to make a difference in you future. The past has clearly shown the impact of this decision is debateable. For those who have made a commitment, the results are at least a small say in the process. As the AOA has gone to great lengths lately to make joining extremely easy and affordable, why not go out on a limb and make your own 15 month commitment and give it a go! at the very least you would of thrown a fraction of your income to the AOA compared to those of us who have paid in earnest for many years?!

What an absolute moronic statement. The AoA has made it as easy as possible for new joiners, there are NO excuses at the moment!!!The last thing we need are free loaders who will do absolutely nothing when asked, except sit back and wait to be able to say,"see i told you so"Grow up!!!!

It's got me farked. The AOA is the only chance we have at defending our contracts, the ONLY chance. It's that farking simple.

What I would like to see is all our contract changes only apply to the group that negotiated them. Bit like in Oz with workplace agreements.

So those of us in the AOA will have the AOA negotiate rostering, housing etc on behalf of its members. Those that choose non membership can bang on Nick's door and negotiate whatever deal they can get.

Many non members complain about what the AOA hasn't achieved for them over the last few years. This way those people won't have to 'suffer' any improvements or degradations to our CoS or company policy agreements!

Seems fair to me!

Why cant you AOA automatons see how futile your situation is? You are supporting an failed organization with no future. Its like you have a bad case of "battered wife syndrome", thinking if you had greater membership, things would get better and the beatings will end.

Lets not forget that the AOA had its STRONGEST membership numbers and support just PRIOR to the 49'ers incident. There is no way the AOA will ever be that strong again, and look what they were able to accomplish then...

It doesn't matter how many people you have backing your organization when the leadership is so useless. Sure they may be some good guys on there, with good intentions, but professional BUSINESS men they are not!

We have second and third rate, non-educated, copy-watch salesmen trying to play dress-up as professional lawyers and corporate power negotiators with a company that will stop at nothing to hire the best to represent themselves. I bet the company's men have a good laugh before meeting with the AOA negotiation team. If they had a internet forum for corporate negotiations, the AOA would have to post in the "wannabe" section.

We have all seen what happens when people try to do things outside their professions. How many lawyers and doctors have killed themselves in horrible plane crashes trying to play pilot? The smart ones hire full-time professional pilots to run their flight department, instead of trying to do a job they were not primarily trained for. Shouldn't the AOA do the same and hire full-time professional negotiators/lawyers when dealing with the company? Thats the only thing that will save the AOA, not membership numbers.

I would be getting full-credit hours for PXing, if not for the skillful AOA team...they managed to negotiate that down to half...where do I sign up?

iluvpx, i will ask you exactly what i ask all the other ney sayers..."What is your solution and how are you negotiating with the company?" It really is a simple question. We all know the AoA aint perfect but it is our only avenue of recourse and negotiations, if you have a better way, please share it with us all!!!!
Yeah thats right, just full of hot air and wind!!!
