Cool

Doesn't hurt. You can always try. But be forewarned that the conditions of service will be lesser than any of your work mates hired prior to 01 JAN 08.

I suppose having the minimal brains to allow you to post questions like this on the wannabees forum might stand you in good stead.....

But if it's too difficult....

Hours should not be a problem- however check the requirements for DEFO carefully. DEFO only on freighters, based in bases other than HK. Time to dust off that other passport you have lurking in the bottom of the drawer?

"DEFO only on freighters" doesn't exist anymore. All DEFO's hired after 01.01.08 are on the Unified FO scale/contract, and may fly freighters or pax as the company sees fit.

Given, those hired onto the 744 fleet will (for obvious economic reasons) mostly fly freighters; but by no means exclusively. But those hired onto the 777 and Airbus will fly passengers only; seeing that we don't have any of the 777F or airbus freighters.

That said, until 2011, currently those recruited directly to the 744 will fly the freighter exclusively.

If that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, I think you have understood it perfectly!

It makes even less sense when you see them do their t&c sectors on passenger aircraft flying passenger routes. Hence fly(ing) the freighter exclusively, except they're not.

But would you please explain about the exclusivity clause of 2011?

I think the reasoning behind 2011 is so that all SOs employed prior to 1/1/08 would have been upgraded - or eligible to upgrade anyway. After the last of the pre 1/1/08 SOs gets upgraded CX will probably introduce UFO scales for HKG.

NC and Jetset:

I'm obviously still missing some key piece of information, because I don't quite see why the SO/CoS99 issue only affects 744 ops?

Surely, keeping 744 DEFOs on freighters to allow for SO upgrades is offset by the fact that we hire pax DEFOs on Airbus and 777?

If I recall correctly, there was a NTC or a DFO/AOA correspondance which stated in general terms "no HK-based DEFOs will be hired onto the pax fleet untill the last CoS99 SO has had the opportunity to upgrade"

Fair enough; but how does that exclude a SFO based 744 DEFO from flying a passenger aircraft until 2011?

I believe that the 2011 deadline is not actually for SOs in HK, but rather for the freighter only FO employed under COS99. By 2011 the last of these guys (in a non gender orientated manner) will have finished their freighter-only commitment and had the chance to cross over to the pax fleet.

This is obviously only a 744 issue, and by keeping new joiner COS08 guys on the 744F only then bypass pay for COS99 freighter FOs will not be triggered.

Easy eh!

13th stage, I suggest that your advertised location....'in teh sky' (sic) probably means that the chances of you flying as a pilot, EVER, are vanishingly small, if not non-existent...... now toddle off back to driving the honey truck, or whatever else you do in real life

Kitsune you are not only an azhle, you must be a spelling champion to... I wonder if you ever would have made it as second officer if the language required for flying would have been anything other than oxford-english...

Well said, 13th stage

I agree with you, 13th Stage. Kitsune's unprofessional and acerbic attitude is probably as unwelcome in the cockpit as it is on this forum.
