flynhigh if you had been furloughed for 6 months with what CX offered as the only option would you take it? I don't mind if you do or don't just if you're in it deep with a family etc That is the crap CX would play on.

Great point. I see what your trying to say. But Hong Kong is not U.S where I can rent a 1 bed room apt for $650.00 a month, my understanding is 1 bedroom apt is Hong Kong is about $2000 to $3000 a month and with a income of $4500 a month for SO, how could someone make a living unless your single and get a crash pad. But at the end of the day your correct as people would line up to interview for those slots at CX.

You can rent an apartment in parts of Hong Kong for less than $5,000HK a month.

guess we'll just have to wait and see. by the way, no ego here! Egos are for people who have something to prove. I don't really care where I sit as long as I can live at home, make decent pay, and see my family. Odd that I'm in an airline career

Cheers

I'm not overly familar with prices of HK properties either, but I was having a chat with my uncle and aunty last night and they said the estate they were living in had 1 bedroom apartments for that price. If you have a family I guess it'd go up to about $10,000HKD.

It's a decent area in Tsuen Wan, lots of families live there. In fact, some of the buildings there are housing for police officers. However, I guess if you've never been to HK you're intending to live in Discovery Bay or somewhere similar?

Thanks for taking time and checking it for us.

Well it has changed, was informed that as recruitment was held due to company reasons, (as opposed to the request of the applicant) the 2 year expiry is no longer valid, the offer is indefinate. I guess youve got to realistic though, if it takes 5 years they must want to see you again in person.

Can you plese tell us who told you that the 2 year expiry is no longer valid. Thanks for your time.

Discovery Bay can actually be cheaper than a lot of places in Hong Kong side, like Pok Fu Lam or the Peak,
generally, for an apartment which is about ~800sqft, the rent will be $7-8k, depending on how recently it has been renovated.

So if the salary is approx 5000 USD with housing allowance for a newly appointed second officer, how much tax is deducted in the first year??
Also when a cadet pilot from FTA graduates and joins CX ,first of all how is he treated and secondly how much salary is he paid?Hopefully same as the second officer...

My understanding is HKG Tax is at 16%. As for other part of your question I let someone who knows to chime in.

Cadet receives SO pay after finishing training. Cadets get no housing as SO, 12K as JFO, 24k as Capt. Not a great deal for an expat.

Rentals in Tung Chung go between 5k-12k/month for 1-3 bedroom flats.

Cadet JFO's don't get 12k housing. Captains who joined as cadets only get the 24k as a special allowance for level D employees.
