I'll be there too. Little confused though; I interviewed for a FO position and was told I was successful and to expect a second interview in due course. Just got an email stating I was invited for a Second Officer interview in Hong Kong. Thats a complete 180 in my planning. I not only have to prep. for the interview but also try to prepare my family for the possibility of moving to Hong Kong when were planning on being base in N. A. Good Luck!

I'm sitting in the same predicament, went for a fo interview, and also only got a so interview. Not too sure i'll take it if its a so out of HKG ?

Is there anybody else this has happened too and ended up getting a fo job offer?

i don't think that i did too brilliantly during my first interview and is hoping that if i do a lot better during the second one, that i can convince them to offer me a fo position.

Maybe there was also some doubt during the first interview as to my comitment to CX and they just want to see if i go for it?

My uninformed guess is that it probably has more to do with the needs of the company than how you performed at your initial interview.

Thats what I've been thinking aswell. Considering they have just gotten a bunch of qualifed pilots dropped in their laps with Oasis and Dragonair guys transitioning over. Heres to the right place at the wrong time.

Is it recommended to get some sim time for the SO interview? I was planning on doing it when I thought I was interviewing for an FO spot.

The sim profile is pretty much the same for an SO as for an FO so if you were gonna do it for the DEFO slot I'd probably do it for the DESO slot as well.

I will agree with your reasoning on why you are getting SO interviews now as opposed to FO ones. THere are suddenly a bunch of freighter guys jamming up the system on the -400 and they are reallocating some aircraft out of NA due to the impending depression.

As for whether to come or not, that depends, can you find a decent job in the states right now?(Unless you are at FEDEX, UPS, SWA, MAYBE JetBlue, this job even as an SO is better and more secure than where you are at)

If you come to HK as an SO, after approximately 18 months you can be on a course to go on a base as a freighter FO, assuming of course that ,eet the requirements(if you were interviewing for an FO slot you do) and are assessed suitable.

Although I applied and first interviewed for a fo position, I was thinking of attending the so interview.

Does anybody think that during or after the interview, considering it was a successful second interview, that CX might change a SO position to a FO position ??

Has this happened to anybody in the past? Would it be worth the time to go speak to them during the interview?

I just looked at their website and it seems like there is seperate application links for FO and SO. Did you only fill out one of them?

How long between your initial interview and when you guys were notified or invited for second interview?

Also, what was the time frame between the initial interview and then second interview in Hong Kong?

After the first interview, you are usually instructed to call them in 10 days to find out the result.

The time between first and second interview is anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months depending on the circumstances. Average would be a couple months, but some people can't take the first interview available, or there are no more spots available so they get bumped to the next session.

In my experience, the second interview offer was the option of either 2 months or 3 months down the line.

Hope this helps.

Get used to it. If you join, it won't be the last time CX screws you over.

Thank you, Dan Buster, for the enlightened response. You have obviously never worked for any North American airline, for you would then truly understand what it is to be over and until your eyes pop.

...
For the rest of you, be well rested, humble, and above all else, enjoy Hong Kong.

SBR,

I am still in the process, having only completed the first interview so far.

All the info about what to study is on this website, although you may have to go back through the archives.

Best of luck.

Yokuba,
How did your interview go in the 2nd week of July? It's easy to find out. I'd seriously advise you to reel your neck in. Wouldn't want to burn any bridges this early in the game.

fyi I worked for a North American airline for 5 years.

How am i burning a bridge by signaling the mass exodus of qualified pilots from North American airlines?

If CX is so bad, sir, as you continually attest it to be, then why not leave?
