L1011 in Curacao
I have seen a L1011 standing at Curacao HATO airport for over a month now. From I have heard it is a Luxair (spelling?) machine leased by Dutch Caribbean Airlines, and it apparently had some sort of engine problem leading to an aborted takeoff...in which they blew some tires..
It spent a couple of weeks at the turnoff at the end of RWY 11 until they changed the tires and towed it to the apron, where it has been parked for 3 weeks.
I talked to a mechanic at the airport, and he said he figured the plan was for it to rot away.
Working with the aviation administration and airport authorities down here I can believe that plan!! They are not the fastest or most practical.
Any other out there have any news...

I knew I would find an answer to this on pprune...I just love this site....
thanks for the answer....good to know they get it out of here...kinda sad to see this plane on the ground..as it is blocking the view of the rest of the apron from my office...

It's not Luxair. It is an Air Luxor ( Portuguese Carrier ) their L1011 fleet was replaced with Airbus A330 the L1011 now flies with a new Portuguese operator Luzair ( not loser heheheh
) which their type of business is based in ACMI's and Charter Flights.

Just to add to the confusion, there's actually two aircraft involved, TMP at Curacao and TMR at Amsterdam. Perhaps EuroAtlantic could donate a few engines from TEB, as these are about the only thing that work on this aircraft.

Thats what happens when they get planes from the desert...
I heard that story too regarding the toilets that were flooded, according to a friend of mine it was in the news both in Portugal and Spain ( it was a chartered flight for some spanish tour operator if im not mistaken )

The CS-TMR of the pic above (see post of volume), landed in AMS with fire coming out of the engine. The next day on the t/o run engine comp stall, stood ther for about 8 hours on the rwy (because brakes where locked an they needed very heavy stuff to pull it from the rwy). After maintenance was done at the engine and a lot of new tires... again a RTO for the same reason!!!(without pax this time). It's now chained and I wonder if this one will ever fly again. They just need another engine, but lack of money.

The CS-TMR never landed at AMS with an engine fire but had an engine stall on t/o...aborted his t/o and blew 7 of the 8 tires this all happened 6 July at 1115 finally at 2050 the rwy was cleared when the a/c was towed away......tried to depart 3 weeks later with same engine stall...this time no tires blown as the a/c was mt....tried to depart last week for an 2 engine ferry but dutch caa said no way because wind r not good enought for this a/c to depart .....a/c is only allowd to depart from rwy 24 or 36L in order to avoid heavy population areas....a/c still grounded at this moment...(.picture is from second attempt to depart from AMS)
CS-TMP had same problem but this time at CUR....indeed about 1.5 week at the end of the rwy....a/c still grounded by caa in order to clear/investigate the problems as 2 different a/c's from same company with same problem in 1 week time

Did a quick google and found this website http://www.luzair.com , the website of "Luzair". On the website they offer L1011, 737, A320, A330 and 767 for "Fast response fleet backup". On the fleet pages, the A320s and 330 they list (by MSN) are Air Luxor machines. Not sure what the link-up is, but they seem linked somehow... just not sure how much? Wonder if Luzair are the broker?

Luzair dont have anything to do with Air Luxor apart from taking the old L1011 and selling them on a commercial basics for acmi/full charter
On the website the aircraft they offer are mainly from LK,YSS,S4,MMZ aircraft
