Jeddah Airport Expansion - renders

Hi there,

I got some renders of the new terminal complex that's going to replace the current crap we have at the moment. I thought I might share them with you:

What do you think? This is the masterplan. Phase 1 (supposed to finish in 2011 ) is the bottom x shaped building only, the two satellites are for future expansion.

Considering the original NEW Jeddah airport opened a whole seven years late, and 34L had to be re-built three times....one wonders if this fiasco will ever get off the ground?

I'm pretty sure something will be done, what how where and when I don't know, but JED airport cannot go on in it's current state for long. I think it helps that it's a DBOT, since the private sector should do things better. But I think 2011 is unrealistic, since it hasn't been put to tender yet, and I doubt the winning bidder will be chosen before 2008.

The construction companies are setting up their management sites, so i guess that it is going to happen....

Now what are they going to do with Riyadh?

Hi Mutt,

Happy to hear the contractors are there. Relief is in sight!

Regarding Riyadh airport, do they need any expansion work? They have a whole terminal unused. If things get tight they can always open the fourth terminal.

It has gone beyond tight..... 10-30 minute arrival delays due to gate congestion are common, its worth remembering that NAS and SAMA have few aircraft so this problem will only get worse.

Its time for terminal 4 to be opened
