Running Win XP home with, I think, all the updates, and IE 6. something.

Suddenly for no reason that I know of, I am regularly getting a window that appears while I am online that says...........

"System Shutdown. This system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off, any unsaved work will be lost. This shutdown was initiated by NT Authority\System.
Time to shutdown........... (the seconds tick down from 60 and then it restarts)
Message. Windows is now restarting because the Remote Proceedure Call (RPC) service was terminated."

Have been to the MS site and found references to heaps of problems associated with RPC but none of them seem to apply to my problem.

Can anyone tell me how to correct this annoying fault ?

Thanks aanoffwwords, I downloaded the patch from MS a few days ago and made sure that Norton was up to date so I thought Iwas protected and this was something different.
It seems that I am infected.

Have you activated the built-in firewall and checked whether you have msblast.exe somewhere on your hard-disk?
(if so removed it?)

I have now activated the firewall and also downloaded the MS patch again.

Have also just run the Symantec Blaster removal tool, and after doing that it informed me that the Blaster worm was NOT found on my computer.
