View Full Version : Concorde To Middle East

Was with some BA people in London last night. Apparently a Middle East airline has enquired with BA to purchase one Concorde to operate Supersonic Services from Gulf to various destinations after BA discontinues Concorde ops at the end of the year.

BA has "politely" declined the offer, even although it would have been a nice two-fingers to Sir Richard.

Anyone know who the carrier involved is? I find it hard to believe that it could have been EK or the newly-commercial sensible GF.

Newswatcher - you able to shed any light?

Sorry A300man, but nothing appearing at present. However, at the end of June, Branson was quoted as saying that he wanted to open a Concorde route to Dubai.

You sure these stories haven't managed to get "entwined"?

I believe the King of Bahrain has offered a substancial amount for concorde to be put into an aviation museum which will be built in Bahrain. It was in the papers the other day.

Snails is right. The interest is actually from a private concern, as opposed to a mainline carrier.

But, I would imagine there would be reasonable demand on premium gulf routes with all the rich people down there!!

Where it would it fly? it would be overland everywhere within range. As for the Bahraini proposal it is true as it has been mentioned by BA.

Gents as far as I could tell the proposal was not for the a/c to fly but sit on static display in the museum.

It was also mentioned in Australian Press that a request has been put in for a concorde to sit down at avalon (nr Melbourne) as a permanent display since they have the big airshow down there every couple of years.

Sounds like concorde is more popular dead than it was alive.

gtaflyer,

Sorry of not getting back to you but I just now saw your post. GF only hires rated people on the A320 or B767 with if I'm not mistaken 500hrs minimum on type.

Bahrain is the potential buyer, well shakie himself fancies parking it on his driveway! It would be great for Bahrain seeing as its been there in the past!! watch this space! Arabs have alot of money and BA need it!! however will the Mr Mike Bannister go himself to Bahrain??? I dont think so, hes got a whopping pension sitting in his bank account!!!
Well Pie in the sky at the moment!!
